For the 101st episode of the CIO podcast hosted by Healthcare IT Today, we are joined by Tom Gillette, CIO at Mount Sinai Medical Center, to talk about digital messaging! We kick this episode off with Gillette sharing his experience with using Epic’s ART for InBasket messages. Then we take a look at the increase of digital messaging since COVID to debate whether or not we think this growth will continue to trend upwards, as well as share where we think all of this messaging is headed. Mount Sinai Medical Center is the first adopter to use ART for messages in Spanish. Gillette walks us through how that works and what some of the nuances are. Then we talk about some of the other technology challenges Mount Sinai Medical Center faces, having such a large Hispanic/multi-lingual patient population.

We then move on to take a look at the other health IT or AI projects Gillette is excited to be working on. Next, we discuss how to balance implementing AI solutions that are best of breed vs a platform of your existing vendors. Then Gillette shares what inspired his decisions to have an AI governance committee, along with his existing IT steering committee. Finally, we conclude this episode as Gillette passes along the best piece of advice he’s been given in his career.
