CIO Podcast - Episode 98: CIO in Retrospection with Rich Temple

Listen Later

For the 98th episode of the CIO podcast hosted by Healthcare IT Today, we are joined by Rich Temple, Former CIO! We kick this episode off with Temple sharing his greatest career achievement and what he is most proud of. Then we discuss how meaningful use was for Temple since he had already implemented the EHR pre-meaningful use. Next, we break down the project Temple worked on that taught him the most, to discuss what he learned.

Hindsight is always 20/20, so now that Temple is entering retirement, he shares with us what he focused on too much as a healthcare CIO that he now would’ve stopped doing, or at least approached differently. Then we debate over what we think CIOs aren’t talking about publicly that they should be, as well as check in and see if Rich’s answer has changed now that he has retired. Next, we talk about whether or not Temple wishes that he had taken more calculated risks while as CIO.

The world of healthcare is rapidly evolving, which means that healthcare jobs are also constantly changing. We debate over what we think health IT will change in the next 5 years, as well as how the job of CIO will change over the course of 5 years. We then also discuss what song we think could be a theme song or an inspiration for CIOs. Lastly, we conclude this episode with Temple passing along some advice to other CIOs who are still grinding.

Here’s a look at the questions and topics we discuss in this episode:

  • As you enter retirement, what would you say was your greatest career achievement? What are you most proud of?
  • How was meaningful use for you if you had already implemented the EHR pre-meaningful use?
  • What’s the project you worked on that taught you the most and what did it teach you?
  • What’s something you focused too much on as a healthcare CIO that you would have stopped doing or at least approached it differently?
  • What’s something that CIOs aren’t talking about publicly that they should be? Is there something you can say now that you couldn’t when you were a CIO?
  • Do you wish you’d taken more calculated risks?
  • How do you see health IT and the job of CIO changing 5 years from now?
  • Is there a song that is the theme song for CIOs or is an inspiration for the CIOs out there?
  • What advice would you give to other CIOs who are still grinding?
  • Now, without further ado, we’re excited to share with you the next episode of the CIO Podcast by Healthcare IT Today.
