  • 3412: Rush
German traffic reimagined by Patrick Bridge.

"I've been working on pieces which incorporate found sound and my own improvised music to create soundscapes.

"I responded to the initial piece of recording and played around with the sounds and added my own in a relatively open way.

"I had in mind the layers of sound we hear in cities and especially in busier areas where transport dominates. "

  • 3413: I imagined myself a cat

  • 3411: See you later - or maybe not
Funicular in Vietnam reimagined by Raymond Delepierre.

"The traces of chaos and historical invasions will make Vietnam a country of hope.

"I used the funicular steel cable as a metaphor, as a memory, as a timeline to extract the sounds leaking into it.

"I used the original sound by only listening as an autonomous body.
From this point of view, I created a dense and musical sound disorganization.

"For this I used field-recording sound sequences captured in Asia, low-fi sound treatments, I created minimalist contributions of musical continuo, processed voices, and resonances of steel cables captured in an urban environment in Europe.

"These dramatic, resonant, urban mixes ultimately lead to an future aeration of an urban environment."

  • 3407: Covid-19 train announcements, northern Italy
Aboard the Trenitalia service to Venice, we listen to the Covid-19 safety announcements in Italian and English, September 2020. There are warnings to wear a face mask over the mouth and nose, maintain space between passengers, and details about hygiene practices and cleaning on the train service. A sound truly reflective of this exact moment in our history. Recorded by Cities and Memory.

  • 3406: Campagna del Trentino - montagna di drone
Dolomite cow bells reimagined by Andy Billington.

"I took the original field recording and fed it into a Bastl Microgranny sampler chopping up the bells and adding movement.

"Next, I took the original recording and in my DAW split into 4 bar sections. I then randomly added in the revised samples of bells stretched and manipulated and finally added a number of improvised organ parts. The song was then mixed and downloaded.

"This was then fed back into the DAW, reversed and chopped into again until new melodies and movement became clearer inside of the layering. Finally the song was pitched up to add sunshine and shimmer."
