  • 3212: Hyla Chrysoscelus
North Carolina, USA lockdown sound recorded by Angela Winter.
"Nighttime on a candlelit porch in North Carolina. My husband and I were talking over a chorus of frogs when suddenly we heard one unlike any we'd heard before.
"What was that strange sound? I recorded a bit of audio and titled it "Freaky Frogs Maybe Aliens," as I joked about UFOs coming to get us all, finally. A few minutes later, I sent the audio file to our friend, a herpetologist who works at the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. He replied, "Lovely! Hyla chrysoscelis. Same here :)" We texted a bit, sharing a moment of connection over the unexpected sound."

  • 3211: Birds of Manizales
Manizales, Colombia lockdown sounds recorded by Daniela Zuluaga.
"We have been in lockdown for about 2 months. Our region has the greatest bird diversity in the world and after 15 days in lockdown we started seeing bird species we don't usually see around. This is the sound of them, nature and us coexisting in a beautiful way, as it should be always. Sharing our planet, that belong to us all."

  • 3210: Students anew
Bradenton, USA lockdown sound recorded by Gabriel Joseph McDerment.
"This sound was recorded in the student parking lot of my high school in the minutes after what would have been the time right after school was released on a normal weekday. If COVID-19 did not happen, then this would be one of the busiest times in the lot. In this time when the wind blows against us, we can still hear the construction equipment bringing newness to the school and a bird singing, hopeful for the day the students return."

  • 3209: Wichita in quarantine rain
Wichita, USA lockdown sound recorded by Mary Alexis Wirths.
"Recorded from my downtown apartment where usually even in rain there are a variety of sounds. Cars, motorcycles, people, and sirens all echo through the streets but as the city dives deeper and deeper into quarantine it grows more and more quiet. Today in the rain all that can be heard is the raindrops beating against a window pain and the echo of one lonely siren."

  • 3208: Morning greetings of Korean birds
South Korean lockdown sound recorded by Rebecca Ghim.
"Korea is not under lockdown, so other than schools, everything is functioning as normal. The reason why we were able to cope with the virus without closing the borders or lockdowns, is because we have the government track the positive patients' recent routes and notifying the citizens in that area. That way people can be tested if they had crossed paths and catch the virus before it spreads further.
"Koreans have been very cooperative with this method and have diligently worn masks and practiced social distancing.
"My message for the global community is to think about the community first, whether that be your family or your co-workers. If you are not careful, your family or your company will pay the price."

  • 3206: The noise of the corridor
Brasilia lockdown sound recorded by Laura Costa.
"Everyone is in the building that I'm living, and when I get out in the corridor, it's so loud in contrast to the street, where I just hear the sound of the bicycles, the only thing that is present outside. But in my corridor I hear everything, families, dogs, children, and I don't feel so lonely after all."
