  • 3088: Singing a jingle I created for my novel "Love before making love"
Bologna lockdown sound recorded by Daniel Agami.
"Apart from dead people, I like this pandemic because by it we are coming back to the silence, and Nature: the animals and the  waters are coming back  to the earth, wilder and cleaner. I am a journalist and a comedian and I am writing about this project, about Stuart, the creator and this website, for "Vanity Fair"'s website [ https://www.vanityfair.it/author/dagami ]
"My sound recorded my fingers when they are beating on the tablet my article, on balcony during the night, thinking I'm afraid of silence when it comes from a girl that I miss and I love, and it means not being natural, and pandemic let come back fishes and dolphins for instance to Venice and Trieste, and water come back clean, and the squares are occupied only by pigeons. I am measuring my silence, my loneliness, my pain, my hope, and at the last I sang a stupid jingle I created for my novel, "Love before making Love"."

  • 3078: Clap for the NHS, London
London lockdown sound recorded by Keith de Mendonca.
"All is quiet on the streets before, as there are few planes or cars. The distant sound of applause triggers the apartments I am standing in front of to respond. A train passes and hoots its horn. And then once it passes silence returns - except for a solitary food delivery man on a scooter arriving to deliver hot food.
"It is peaceful so far and relatively quiet in this location near Bermondsey Spa - we can hear birds more clearly and the local fox is more bold in its movements during the day. Home work steadily becomes harder as the malaise of isolation builds up. Warm weather taunts everyone outside; flowers and trees are blossoming."

  • 3076: Montréal, la nuit gouvernée
Montreal lockdown sound recorded by Hubert Gendron-Blais.
"A field recording captured during the first night of the extension of the powers of the police in the sanitary state of emergency. Recorded from a backdoor balcony in a rainy night, a soundscape « normally » dominated by a varying combination of traffic reverberated on the brick walls, the big fan of the restaurant downstairs, the passing of some walkers. But that night was strangely quiet.
    |"A tensed, imposed quietness: from now on, anyone who will be accused to break the exception laws of « public health » could get important fines. (That will be the case of hundred of people in the city in the days after, including homeless people, street workers, etc.).
"If, as the Invisible Committee underlines, the structure of contemporary power takes the form of the material, technological and physical organisation of the world, in short if power is the very order of things, this environmental order could sometimes be more perceptible in ambient noises rather than in the analysis of the explicit statements of the administration. That incessant siren far away wasn’t the noise of our overheating nerves then."

  • 3075: Dawn chorus in Florence
Florence lockdown sound recorded by Valerio Orlandini.
"Italy has been one of the first areas outside China to have been struck by the Covid-19 pandemia, and the whole country is on lockdown since March 8th, and a clear end has yet to be seen.
"The daily habits have drastically changed and now this fatiguing routine is almost felt as a new normality, even if it is not normal and it is our duty to think to the lost freedom as something precious that has to be regained in its entirety as soon as things turn for the better.
"The recording was taken in the early morning in an area of Florence at the borders of the historical city centre, where there is usually a certain car traffic and lots of people are around."

  • 3074: Sounds of nature invade the most industrialized area of Italy
Italian lockdown sound recorded by Jacopo Bertoli.
"In the middle of the area most affected by Covid-19, between Bergamo and Brescia, it is usual to hear the sound of factories, cars and construction sites. Now, that even the ambulance sirens have almost stopped ringing, that's all that's left, beyond the silence."

  • 3073: Morning Forest Sounds along Krummbachtal
Gerlingen, Germany lockdown sound recorded by Kirsten Carlson.
    "Recorded 13APR2020, 0902, E: 1500':
"Weather is turning warmer, Spring has arrived, I have a strong desire to be in Nature and begin the release of 'stress weight' I've been holding onto for the past year. I went on a solo bike ride today and paused to check a toad trap (they have exclusion gates for the amphibians this time of year), no 'phibs but I paused to record the sounds of the forest I was biking through (and distant traffic on Wildparkstrasse).
"As an artist with a home studio, my days haven't shifted much with the pandemic, except I can't procrastinate-shop, which is beneficial to my creative projects. Unexpected consequences of the pandemic include valuing health and friendships on a whole new appreciation level. And, I love the sharing and caring that I witness in our species that has resulted from the isolation we've undertaken to facilitate the extinction of the virus."
