  • 2874: Familia
Portuguese lockdown sounds recorded by Luis Antero.
"Familiar sound piece with the voice of my three kids (6 and 12 years old) and my wife, while staying at home during these strange times.
"Children have been true heroes at this stage in our lives. deprived of the street and street games, school and friends, football, gymnastics, walks with parents, the joy of living outdoors, they reinvent themselves at home, discovering themselves and discovering us differently, through our fears and fears.
"They want this to end, just like us, but they know, like us, that it won't be now, but every day they wake up with that smile that can lift the world when it is falling..."

  • 2873: Old cottage kitchen
Wales lockdown sound recorded by Wills.
"Here in North Wales, we're on our second day of as good as lockdown (with exceptions) and it's all very quiet. I'm working from home, as well as making a few home recordings.
"This is a room tone recording of our kitchen. Usually you can always hear traffic in the background, but here we just have the tone and a distant clicking clock. It's all very strange!"

  • 2872: Morning Chorus at the Birdfeeders
Cincinnati lockdown sounds recorded by Rich Bitting.
"I recorded the dawn chorus in my backyard focusing on my bird feeders.
"Ohio is under a "stay at home" order. The usual sound from the traffic and airplanes was noticeably sparse. I did, however, hear the horns from a train switching yard about two miles away. The leaves have not yet sprouted so the soundscape is filled with distant sound.
"I did notice a predominant hum from the neighborhood heat pumps and furnaces. The temperature this morning @ 6:50 AM was 42°F."

  • 2871: Sounds from Vantaa, Tikkurila, Finland
Finnish lockdown sounds recorded by Juho Liukkonen.
"I recorded these sounds during Wednesday 25 March, while our government was deciding whether to seal the borders of the Uusimaa region.
"This sound montage consists of sounds from the Tikkurila railway station and the park nearby the station. Even though you don't see (or hear) people moving or chatting to each other, you can hear many working in the construction yard tearing old buildings down and cleaning sidewalks with pressure washers.
"Oddly enough, everything is seemingly "normal". "

  • 2870: Aufmunternde Berührung/encouraging touch
Lockdown sound from Vienna recorded by Luzi.
"I'm here in Vienna, Austria. We've stayed at home since 14 March. So, now 12 days and it will be like this until April 14th.
"For me, the coronavirus crisis feels somehow liberating, but also alarming. We are in the midst of change and I hope with all the people understanding that we all fight the same battles, consciousness of humanity will raise.
"The sound i sent to you is an "encouraging touch" on my boyfriend's leg. He is a guitarist and as such affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, but he is also a technical draftsman working for a corporation that supervises retirement homes all over Vienna.
"So at the moment he works from home and has to correct all the floorplans because of the need for intensive care units in the buildings. So a lot of work and pressure today for him and no time for music. But we also enjoy the time we have close together now, working side by side on our projects. No airplanes in the sky and a lot of hope."

  • 2866: Tibetan Bonpo morning prayer
North Indian lockdown sound by Christiane Strothmann.
"This is the morning prayer sung at sunrise in Dolanji, the Tibetan Bönpo refugee settlement in North India.
"The sound is recorded from the balcony of my room in the guesthouse of Menri Monastery. From here I can overlook the valley of Dolanji having a free view on the public school down in the valley, and to the nunnery on the opposite mountain on the other side of the valley.
"The community is responsible and mindful concerning the coronavirus. All precautions are taken, social distancing is working well. Fortunately, the valley isn't visited very often anyway, and there is so much space between the rooms and houses of the settlement that it doesn't take too much to adept to the situation, at least compared to other places in India.
"However, since the medical facilities are not comparable to that of the Western countries it is challenging to completely get rid of all worries, especially when thinking of intensive care.
"Nevertheless the Tibetan monks are spreading an atmosphere of calm and confidence. There is still heartfelt laughter and smiling among the monastics as well as among the Tibetan villagers.
"Yesterday, the last day before the complete shutdown of India, we could still listen to the sounds of the ritual performed as usual by monks and students of the Tibetan medical college at every new moon in order to bless their hand made medicine.
"Also the sounds of the rituals performed at the nunnery and at the monk's monastery had been going on so far.
:From today on it will most probably be the sounds of individual practices stemming from the nuns' and monks' rooms, since due to the shutdown the big assembly halls for greater rituals have been closed.
"However, it is assumed that this will not do anything to the effectiveness of their practices. So it is nice to know that in this extraordinary global situation next to their daily routine the nuns and monks perform special rituals for the wellbeing of the whole world.
"The main protector of the Bön tradition is Sipe Gyalmo, a healing, wrathful, and highly potent female aspect of the universe.
"Sometimes, when thunderstorms are crossing the valley it seems as though Sipe Gyalmo was talking to us, proving her existence and granting us her determination to heal and protect the world by whatever means."
