"The original recording that I selected for this project were so full of life, depth and compelling elements that I decided to select a raw fragment and work with equalisation and frequencies isolation, as an exercise of hyper realism to make it sound realistic, believable and immersive."

  • 1992: 20180516 (Sri Lanka reimagining)
Coconutes falling in Sri Lanka, reimagined by Man Barlett. "I used the original field recording (consisting of some men talking, birds chirping and the falling and cutting of coconuts somewhere in Sri Lanka) as the source material for a psychedelic, drone-tastic, meditative journey through the tropics. The first step involved adding digital delays, reverb and filter effects to the source file, which I recorded to cassette. I then played the cassette on an Onde Magnétique OM-1 (similar to a Mellotron), while adding another layer of effects using Empress Effects’ Echosystem. After re-recording digitally I added back in snippets of the original file." Image by Stephane Marin.

  • 1991: Flags, maps
Kogalla Beach reimagined by Philippe Lamy.
"While I was listening to the original piece for the first time i was struck by its rhythmic richness and its faculty to create a distinct mental image : a fluttering flag. Afterwards some other images came quickly on top of this first one, like recollections : machines, mechanical clinking, papers or flapping ensigns, … I choose to take on my work making variations from possible changes of scales and spaces, keeping in the background of my mind the other mental image : flags on maps."
