  • 1663: In San Martin Square
    Recorded by Vanessa Valencia Ramos.
"San Martin Square is known as a place where people talk, share, and debate about politics, religion and other current affairs topics, both local and national. In the first protest we hear one of the "etnocacerista' militants, called "the poet commander', who using his words, uncovers his thoughts about Peruvian politics and, without a doubt, mentions names of political leaders who got people talking in the last elections for their proposals as well as their liberal ideas.
In the second act, an Inca priest talks about the revenge of food, about which we have little or no information. Right now, in our country, the Grupo Gloria is facing one of its biggest crises with one of its brands (Pura Vida) because of the banning made by Panama, and over here the authorities had to discuss the issue."

  • 1655: F**k Your Austerity (Greece)
Greek anti-austerity protest reimagined by Alex Hehir.
""This started as a musical jam in response to the angry austerity march/riot in Athens,Greece. Many of the supporting sounds are made from the original and the field recording runs throughout the track(albeit completely twisted)I also felt compelled to record a simple and rather blunt message in amongst the noise and beats. This is the first protest 'song" I have ever written and it was a blast....:) "

  • 1662: The traces of ghostlike sounds (Madrid)
Madrid protest reimagined by Luba Diduch.
"I used Audacity employing effects such as reverb, changes in speed and reversing portions of the clip.
When I first I listened to the clip I thought about how protests such as these have occurred through history, and how sounds of banging pots can be made very simply using ready-to-hand implements. I was interested in some of the percussive and vocal elements in the clip. I also thought about how sound vibrates through time. This led me to use one continuous slowed-down track as a main structure for arrangement in the composition. For me, this main track symbolizes the traces of ghostlike sounds created during these protests such as these that continue to reverberate infinitely through time."

  • 1661: Global Noise, Madrid
    Recorded by Kamen Nedev.
"In 2011, the #15M movement introduced a new element in the protest vocabulary of the city of Madrid. Caceroladas, pot-banging and other forms of rough music, very popular in Latin America, were virtually unheard of here. (Not so Barcelona, where there has been a tradition in pot-banging protests ever since the major 2003 anti-war protests).
Around the first anniversary of the #15M protest, in May 2012, the first caceroladas started taking place in Madrid. The major one, and, by far, the largest (and loudest) cacerolada ever in the city took place on October the 13th 2012, following the #GlobalNoise call for action. It was a huge demonstration which took over 5 hours to cross the city centre, and was followed by thousands.
This piece is a subjective impression of that afternoon, following the phonographer from his kitchen all the way to the end of the demo in Puerta del Sol. It was part of the Augmented Spatiality exhibition, curated by María Andueza in Hökarängen, Stockholm, 2013."

  • 1660: Politics 404
NYC protest reimagined by Manuel Guerrero.
"“Politics 404” refers to the famous internet’s Error 404, thinking about the political protests as the moments when we realize that something it’s wrong with the way that the goverment is working. People on streets reveals the error, but a possible solution too.
So, taking this idea i decided to make a narrative-reimagined sound where, as long as the protest march forward, the context begins to be “incomprehensible”: full of sonic glitches at the middle, the tracks confronts whom listen with the mistakes, painting a harsh soundscape. At the end, the audio restores his “logic” just with the voice of the people.
For the technical solutions, for the first time, I chose a software to “destroy” the original track: SoundGrain, a graphical interface, allows the user to control granular sound synthesis, producing some glitched textures. For the audio editing of some parts i used, as usual, Garageband."

  • 1659: Drowning out another protest (New York City)
    Recorded by Keira Simmons.
"Counter-protesters stage a noise demonstration (whistles, vuvuzelas, screams, cowbells, drums) to drown out anti-Muslim speakers at an event in Foley Square. NYPD police broadcast warning message to counter-protesters to remove masks from their faces or they will be liable for arrest. "
