  • Everyday paranoid mobility
    Angel station reimagined by Yol.
"the original file was put into an app called samplr and then played on a loop, slowed down in places etc, and the vocals/feedback/other sounds were added over that, all in real time. it's a hard track, i've given the source file a bit of a battering but a lot of it still comes through. the whole thing sums up my love/hate relationship with the tube. everyday paranoid mobility."

  • Old Street Decelerator
Old Street reimagined by Nigel Bryant.
"The process involved looping a section of the train accelerating out of the station and applying effects to this. This was then run on to a tape recorder and two audio files produced from the tape recording: the first with a gradual increase of tape speed over a fixed duration and the second with a gradual reduction of tape speed over the same fixed duration. The two files were then used in combination to create the finished piece. An obvious reference for the technique is the early tape work of Steve Reich and a desire to take a reductive approach, focusing on the elements of the recording that were most appealing to me as a listener."

  • Collage of Royal Victoria
    Reimagined by Augusto Meijer.
"“Collage” is entirely based on a field-recording created at the Royal Victoria DLR Station in London. This recording has been edited and processed using various techniques. The results have ultimately been compiled into an sonic trip inspired by the aesthetics of the London Underground."

  • klbrnprk (Kilburn Park)
    Reimagined by Phil Maguire.
Field recording from the London Underground by Cities and Memory.
    ""
this piece features the source recording as a distant background. i’ll admit, i got a bit stuck making a piece from this recording; field recordings are usually something i enjoy making and listening to, and not much more.
the conversation in the recording intrigued me; the sense of confusion from the non- speaking person. thinking along this line of confusion, or perhaps isolation, in a large city, i imported the reaper analysis file of the source recording into audacity as raw data. the noise texture that results was then heavily processed as an improvisation in ppooll. the source recording is in there, but deep down. a faint flicker of timbre."

  • Grand dreams of Paddington
    Paddington reimagined by Tom Thompson.
""""Submission for the project ""The Next Station"". Tom Thompson (Primitive Acoustics) My piece is imagining and magnifing the sounds created by the physical structure itself as well as mechanical tones of trains produced over time and then retained in the form of echoes and sound memories interwoven with the more contemporary sounds of the original recording. I included sounds of the recording but thought of them as ambient tones blending into the acoustic assemblage of Paddington at the very time of their creation, remaining forever a part of the spacetime continuum. The sounds recorded were all created on my homemade experimental instruments. A four string electro-acoustic four string Underwood typewriter and an electric Mbira. • Ozymandias (Emirates Airline)
    Reimagined by Peter Nagle.
""Ozymandias" is a track based on a field recording made on the Emirates Airline, a cable car in East London. I made the track using a combination of stretching, sampling and processing of the source track. As a grandiose and expensive white elephant, the Emirates Airline embodies the legacy of Boris Johnson's mayoralty. Johnson has since gone on to lead the UK to its most disastrous decision for at least a century. I hope that the title from Shelley needs no further explanation."
