  • A flight with Dada
Part of our Dada Sound project (February 2016) - see more at http://www.citiesandmemory.com/dadasounds By Elisabetta Senesi.
"My reimagined piece is focused on the juxtaposition of two layers of narrative. I applied the dada techniques of Collage and Montage by cutting separate clips where speech/human acitivities happened. Hence, I edited each clip in order to rebuild the recording backwards, while working mainly in split channels for manual pannings and individual time delays. Abstraction technique has been applied by using audio transitions between the selected clips, mostly cross fade in/out, and reverse effect has been also added in some clips with radio voices and mobiles melodies as I aimed to give a sense of interference. Chance has been applied with Phaser effect in one clip as I wanted to give another level of speech intelligibility. Finally, Readymade technique has been applied by adding generative modular sounds, such as DTMF tone, Risset Drum, Chirp, Click Track to join the main clips and to conclude the piece."

  • Railway deconstruction
Part of our Dada Sound project (February 2016) - see more at http://www.citiesandmemory.com/dadasounds By Allysse Riordan.
"For this piece I recorded the sounds of my local train station. Trains for me still represent the industrial revolution and the changes it brought in people’s way of living and warfare. So it seems fitting to use those sounds for a Dada piece.
Coming back home I deconstructed the sounds, so that I could focus on their rhythm and texture rather than a narrative and follow on dadaists’ delight of the sounds themselves. I mixed and intersected the same sounds within themselves, I used collages, and eventually built this piece. One of the last sound is not from my recording session at the train station but from Brighton. It reminded me of the rhythm of the wheels of a passing train that had gone into a sudden sound flourish."

"I have imagined sounds of imagined trains, then chopped up the some of original recording to insert into the re-imagined piece, put in some random footsteps recorded in Oxford city centre, and mixed in an announcement from the other end of the line."

By Ryan Cross. "My piece consists of three different pregoneros, walking salesmen, making their rounds in my neighborhood. It incudes Dada techniques such as the readymade (as the original sounds were not my original creation, but rather sounds that were “found”), chance (I happened to find these salesman on this particular day), and assemblage. The result, I hope, is a kind of folding of time and space where I reimagine all of them in the same street corner at the same time, a kind of ripe avocado-song battle, which in fact is more real than imagined. Alternatively titled: “Guacamole.”"
