CiTR -- Thunderbird Eye

A double-feature episode, as Mike Liu sits down with three members of the UBC Table Tennis team, before also speaking with two members of the UBC Quidditch community. Both Table Tennis and Quidditch are Thunderbirds Sport Clubs, and we dive into what that designation means, its benefits and what the transition from AMS club to TSC is like.

Diana Hong joins a UBC women's soccer training session, and afterwards speaks to Emily Moore, Katalin Tolnai and coach Jesse Symons about how they've adjusted to their new normal, and the ramifications of this cancelled season.

On this week's episode we take a look at one of the many non-varsity clubs and sports communities UBC has to offer: the UBC Esports Association! We hear from Nick Reydon and Sydney Harakal as they discuss the effect the pandemic has had on their events, their plans for the future and the reasons why they love Esports.

After nearly six months away, we are finally back with our first show of the school year! In this episode, we speak with Rocky Olfert, managing director of Canada West, about the decision to cancel sports for the first semester, its effect on athletes and programs and what the near future holds for the conference.

It is definitely not a normal episode. We wrap-up the 2019-2020 sports seasons and Jacob signs off prematurely due to the pandemic. BUT there is good news – Liz found time for an interview and Cory reveals a BIG surprise ON-AIR!

We recap the UBC men’s basketball's bronze medal finish at USPORTS, see what baseball and softball accomplished in Oregon, and announce two national awards winners in the basketball world for the T-birds. Then Byron and Alan Wang interview UBC Thunderbirds and Olympic swimming medalists Emily Overholt and Markus Thormeyer who talk about an unfinished race, a pet stick bug, and much more.

The end of the Canada West winter sports season has arrived, and the Thunderbirds took home some hardware for their efforts.

Womens and mens swimming win the U-Sports Championship for the 4th straight year; all six of our basketball, hockey and volleyball teams played in the Canada West playoffs; and men’s rugby, baseball, and softball all have pre or mid-season action. There’s a lot happening.

UBC women's hockey standouts Tory Micklash and Mikayla Ogrodniczuk show leadership in the booth and reminisce over fond hockey memories as seniors, talk student-athlete life, and address women's college sports + volleyball and hockey are in playoff time while softball and baseball seasons are fully under way.
