City Council Chronicles

We visit Richmond, the current capital of Virginia and the former capital of the Confederacy. I stand in the middle of the James River, witness a boisterous rally for trains, and conspire with an admiring citizen to take a picture with the mayor. This is a special episode in an occasional series about towns and cities. Different people answer the same two questions: what is the best thing about this place? And what is the worst thing about this place?

We visit Lake Forest--a small, wealthy suburb 30 miles to the north of Chicago. I take a tour of a reptile house (and pet an iguana!), watch college students plant trees, head to the beach, and end up in a horse barn.
