The cross remains the most powerful yet mysterious symbol in the world’s history. Why would an all-powerful King die naked and powerless on a tree? Why has the cross been such a powerful source of healing to countless people crossing every imaginable culture? Luke tells us the cross demonstrates both the justice and love of God for his broken people.

Jesus talked about money more than he talked about heaven and hell. Money can become such an overwhelming source of stress and ambition. Jesus teaches us how we can become free from the power of money and how we can instead find our truest riches in his Kingdom.

We live in a world of conditionality. We are loved if we perform, if we are beautiful, if we live up to the expectations of countless people. The Gospel tells us the Good News that the love of God is not conditioned upon our own obedience. Jesus invites us to the dance of grace, where all are welcome and all are loved.

Many people turn away from Christianity because of the perceived preaching of “fire and brimstone.” But what does Jesus actually tell us about the final judgment? Is God exclusively a God of love or is there an ultimate judgment? In Luke we see Jesus re-define our modern ideas of judgement and enlighten us with a new way of living by God’s grace.

In Luke 9 Jesus calls his disciples to live with the Kingdom of God as the chief storyline of their lives. They are called to serve and at times suffer for the sake of the Kingdom. But what ultimately propels us forward is the love of God and the glory of God revealed to them in Jesus.

Jesus’ encounter with broken people show us a world that is broken by various addictions and disease. But Jesus’ healings show us that His touch can overcome any sickness and can free us from all shame.

Jesus calls his disciples to not only be students of the Word of God but to live it out so fully that it transforms their lives. The Word of God has power not only to give us understanding but to give us courage to face the most difficult circumstances of life.

Jesus entered into a world of disease, broken relationships and death. But the message of Jesus is that he has come to renew all things. Jesus has come to face our greatest enemy, death, and restore everything broken by the fall. The Easter message gives us a renewed hope that God will one day renew all things.

Often God doesn’t show up in our lives the way that we want. John the Baptist wondered during his imprisonment whether Jesus was really the Christ. Jesus teaches us that his kingdom comes through suffering but will eventually end with glory.
