When you look in you "faith mirror" do you see you or do you see God?
Why - moments after his resounding victory late in chapter 14 of Genesis - do we see God say to Abram: After this, the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision: "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward."
Check your motives - make sure that what you do and say next represents God more than it represents you.

In addition to being aware of God, we need to walk with God and be available to Him.

God is with us, all the time - we must not let our circumstances dictate our concept of God but, instead, allow our perception of God to change our perspective of our situation.

Are you aware of God, everywhere, all the time, in every situation?
Start to look for Him - He IS there!

The sword is both defensive and offensive weapon.
The passage in Ephesians 6:17 assumes battle conditions when it advises us to put on the helmet and take up the sword.
The Word of God is both logos (written) - and the Rhema (applied to particular situations by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit).
As a soldier drills in peacetime so that he or she is able to act instinctively in a battle situation, and to intimately know their weapon - so too must we believers.
Also - know that you personal comfort comes second to the collective good, every soldier know this and is comfortable with it.

The helmet (galea) protects the mind (thoughts} as well as the ears and jaw. Guard your thinking, what you listen to and what you speak.
 Know who God is, who you are and what your response should, then be.
 1 Thessalonians 5:8-10, Luke 8:11, Prov 23:7, Prov 4:23, James 1:6-8.
 (On a personal note: I was struck by that neck protection - it seems to me that the past and betrayal are things that we should trust salvation to protect us from also. Gerard.) 

Ephesians 6:16 - "In ALL circumstances, take up the shield of faith (assumes that it is always near you) so that you may extinguish ALL the flaming arrow (darts) {assumes that these will always come at you}.

Like the Roman scutum - my faith requires daily maintenance with the oil of the Holy Spirit

God wants people who are ready to step up for him - willing and able are both implied in that.

As with Truth - Righteousness should be a defining trait of Christians - without these our testimony about God is void.

The Menorah - the only source of light in the inner places of the tabernacle and temple.
7 Lights - Christ being the center and man the outer 6 branches.
The oil in the lamp - the Holy Spirit.
Each of us has a role to play in bringing light to out local fellowship - and to the world. We do this by being connected to Christ and by allowing the Holy Spirit to work in and through us.
