This Sunday we’re seeing how an unexpected encounter between King David and one of his citizens teaches us an important point about worship. The word “worship” in the English language comes from the olde Anglo-Saxon for “worth-ship”. To worship means to declare the worth of the object we are worshiping. Worship is more than a song, more than a ceremony, and its more than words. True worship means living my life in a way that shows I believe Jesus is worthy of the highest honor. The journey of faith has ups and downs as well as dangers and delights. As we follow Christ in everyday life, we have an enemy who’s doing everything he can to trip us up. We also live in a fallen world with traps and snares along the way to stop us or throw us off track. This week we’re eavesdroping on a conversation between two rich men that exposes the most formidable obstacle to living by faith. But their conversation doesn’t leave us hopeless, it also shows the way forward.

Psalm 9:10 says, “Those who know your name will trust in you, for you Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.”

The series ends this Sunday, but let’s make knowing God our lifelong pursuit so that we trust him more courageously and follow him more closely.
