A Saskatoon police officer accused of assaulting a suspect during an 2016 arrest was found not guilty yesterday. Jarett Gelowitz punched, kicked, and kneed a suspect after a high-speed chase but Justice Richard Danyliuk, taking into account the size, strength, age, and gender of the parties involved, found the force used was not more than necessary to protect the officers and subdue the suspect. Gelowitz was fired from the police service after the assault charges were laid against him, and now the Saskatoon Police Association is calling for his reinstatement with back pay and legal costs. Dean Pringle, President of the Saskatoon Police Association and Vice-President of the Saskatchewan Federation of Police Officers, joins John now to discuss the case.
