Pierre McGuire from NHL on NBC and TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button joined the show.

Craig Button says Cale Makar is “a dynamic defenseman” who can control the play with the puck and “has star written all over him”. Craig says Miro Heiskanen is “so efficient and so smart” and thinks the game very well, just doesn’t have the high-end offensive upside of Makar.

Pierre McGuire says the Cup Final is closer than many expect, as only game five has been truly lopsided. Pierre suggests there’s “a serious sliding scale” to have refs have called postseason games, and it’s getting a bit out of control right now.

NHL Insider Bob McKenzie and NHL Draft analyst Scott Wheeler from Future Considerations joined the show.

Scott Wheeler says Miro Heiskanen, who Future Considerations Hockey has 3rd in its draft rankings, is there because he already defends at a very high level. Scott says Casey Mittelstadt’s high school dominance is not a fluke, and he’s established a strong pedigree already…while Cale Makar has a similar situation, in that you can’t hold his play against AJHL opponents as a negative. Scott suggests Makar is “arguably the most gifted offensive player in this draft from the back end”.

Bob McKenzie says he’s never seen anything like the scene in Nashville around the Stanley Cup Final, since the old days of the Boston Garden and the Spectrum in Philly. Bob says the NHL, three or four years ago, had Seattle at the top of its expansion list but a lack of an arena and an owner shelved that. So Bob says, despite yesterday’s Key Arena announcement, those are still a concern. But if both issues are taken care of, Bob suggests the NHL will be very interested in Seattle
