Dan Peres was editor in chief of Details for fifteen years, before taking the editorship of Details he spent nine years at W magazine, overseeing bureaus in Paris, London, and Milan. We talk about why he got into journalism, and how it relates to the human condition of wanting to belong and seeking external validation. We get into the "shoulds" and how they keep us from knowing what we really want and who we are. He also shares the accident that changed the direction of his life and led to a serious addiction to pain killers. We talk getting sober and figuring out for the first time who he is which led to him writing his addiction memoir, As Needed For Pain. I REALLY loved this conversation and Dan's affinity for gratitude, which we are both leaning on during this uncertain time.
