Simply amazing. You can bet a whole truckload of producers and musicians took notes when this baby hit the streets... and they're still doing it today. For Brown, of course, it was just another step in the path he was leading toward Funk. This original release has the orange King label with James Brown's picture on it. It has Stereo audio. Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage King Records factory sleeve. The labels have a touch of ringwear, grading a strong EX. The vinyl, on the other hand, looks untouched, and the audio is huge and pristine Mint... true musical genius!

From a warehouse find, this is a new, unplayed stock copy, in its original Geffen factory sleeve. Here's one of the rarest of the rare 45s ... at least, rare for Elton John. It's that rarest of species that failed to register on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart! Which is a shame, because it's one of his catchiest singles, with Elton mining the Country Rock side of his personality. The track was culled from his excellent Jump Up album, which yielded the hits "Empty Garden" and "Blue Eyes." Pete Townsend does honors on the lead guitar, by the way. Note: This beautiful 45 has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio).

Stereo/Mono promo copy. Here's another great obscurity that's hard to categorize... Some might call it "Disco" because of the beat and the female lead singer (credited as Myriam Valle), but it's got something else going on that makes me put it in the Modern Rock column. Have a listen to the mp3 "snippet" and decide for yourself! By the way, there appears to have been no album associated with this single, but there was a 12-inch single with a longer version. Paul Simon was one of the first non-Reggae artists to flirt with the reggae sound, and this is a damned good experiment, if you ask me! I'm always shocked to hear the incredibly powerful Stereo mix that they pressed these 7-inch releases with: Loud is simply not sufficient to describe the enormity of what's in these little grooves. The mp3 snippet I've provided doesn't do it justice, but hopefully you'll get the idea. :-) Collector nerd alert: This is the original release on the red/orange Columbia label. Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage Columbia Records factory sleeve. It has pristine Mint labels, and the A side audio is pristine Mint as well. Unfortunately, the B side vinyl (styrene) has experienced some trauma, with an area that looks like something spilled on it. The audio is undistorted but does have occasional surface noise. The overall audio grade and the vinyl grade reflect the A side only.

Here's a beautiful copy of the single that Dave Marsh ranks at #491 in his list of the 1,001 greatest 45s of Rock'n' Soul. And don't neglect the terrific B side... also essential Sir Douglas Quintet! By the way, this was a non-album single until Tribe released a "Greatest Hits" LP in 1966. Fortunately, that LP contains both of these great tracks. Note: This 45 record has very nearly Mint labels.
