The home of International Harvester, Fort Wayne, Indiana, was once dubbed "The Truck Capital of the World".  Ryan Duvall is not only a dedicated International Harvester enthusiast and collector but the Founder of Harvester Homecoming.  Harvester Homecoming is a dedicated group of locals, including many former International Harvester employees, working to establish the Fort Wayne Harvester Historical Fund and host the largest annual International Harvester truck show in the world to bring the one-time "Truck Capital of the World" back to the forefront of the city's identity.

Though 4x4 trucks gained prominence in the 1950s, 4x4 history dates back a century prior to the 1800s.  Innovators like Burstall, Hall, Diplock, Zachow and Coleman first experimented with and eventually patented the earliest forms of transfer cases and gearing that enabled early four wheel drive vehicles.  Today, four or all wheel drive is available on everything from lawnmowers to electric vehicles as a result of innovations that date back nearly 200 years.  Steve Skurnowicz is the Vice President of the Antique Truck Club of America and 4x4 enthusiast and historian.  Founded in 1971, the ATCA is dedicated to the preservation, restoration and operation of antique trucks.  An international community of truck enthusiasts that support the organization and host one of the largest truck shows in the world every year in Macungie, PA.      

On this episode, Chris and Steve discuss the history and innovators that brought 4x4 vehicles to prominence from the 1800s to today.  They also discuss the importance of the community keeping that history alive and the role the Antique Truck Club of America, its members and its events have in preserving that history.

The Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution was one of the hottest trucks in 2022, experiencing a 74% year over year price increase.  Second to only the Land Rover Defender 110's chart topping 84% year over year price increase.  The difference?  Most are familiar with the Defender and expected its stellar price performance, but are still trying to figure out what a Pajero is and how it became so popular so quickly.  Mitsubishi collector and enthusiast, Dan Perkins, has those answers and more.  Dan started collecting and tinkering with Mitsubishi's because they were cheap, reliable and relatively easy to repair.  Still reliable and easily repaired, but no longer cheap.  Whether you call them Monteros, Pajeros or Shoguns the small tight knit community of  Mitsubishi enthusiasts are fiercely loyal.

In 2016, Jason Miller bought a 12-acre farm in Pennsylvania.  There’s a lot of work that goes into getting a neglected farm back up and running.  Jason got to work fixing the farmhouse and taking care of the land, but he soon realized he needed a utility vehicle around the farm.  The solution wasn't a UTV or pickup, it was a 1965 Jeep CJ5a Tuxedo Park Mark IV.  Though his first vehicle, a Jeep TJ Wrangler, launched his enthusiasm, it was that 1965 CJ5a that catapulted his passion for Jeeps.  He eventually ended up with a collection of Jeeps, 1965 CJ5A, 1953 CJ3b and 2002 Wrangler.  Chronicling his trials, tribulations and antics repairing and restoring his collection on social media has added fan favorite content creator to his resume, behind a dedicated father, husband and master electrician.

On this episode, Chris and Jason discuss how their lives intersected because of that very rare 65 CJ5a, the stories behind finding the Jeeps in his collection and his most recent Stroker engine swap.

When he’s not searching for stories or poring over copy, Caleb Jacobs is usually driving dump trucks or wishing they were running so he could drive them.  He was born and raised in the Missouri Ozarks, and he lives there today with his family.

Caleb is The Drive’s truck editor.   He started with The Drive right out of high school, joining as a freelance contributor. From there, he began his tenure as the site’s weekend editor before transitioning to a full-time role in 2020. He now serves as truck editor, helping select stories and polishing them until they shine for the internet to see and share. Whether it’s explaining what’s new in the world of work and play or spotlighting a resourceful DIY project, his goal is to talk about large vehicles in a smart and relatable way.

Whether it's the diesel engine that gets the least amount of credit or the rarest of all Jeep CJs, Dakota Black restores and collects them both.  The elusive Nissan SD33 diesel engine might be underrated, but it had a place in time when it powered American cars and trucks.  Most think the CJ-6 was Jeep's rarest CJ model, but the uniquely designed, purpose built and misunderstood CJ-10 holds that title.  Dakota Black and his family work together and share their unique interest in collecting and restoring SD33 engines and CJ-10s.  Not only do they share their hobby, but they own and manage one of the Pacific Northwest's most respected automotive repair shops, Unlimited Service.
