Listen Later

Crime and drama on a Sunday

First,  a look at this day in History.

Then, The CBS Radio Workshop, originally broadcast August 3, 1956, 69 years ago, The Subways are for Sleeping. . An adaptation of the fascinating Harpers magazine short story about a homeless man (but not a bum!) in New York. The original article can be read here:  https://harpers.org/archive/1956/03/subways-are-for-sleeping/

Followed by Somebody Knows, originally broadcast August 3, 1950, 75 years ago, the Paula Kohler Eubanks Murder.  On June 26, 1947, Ms. Eubanks' body was found at the Kansas City (Missouri) city dump, strangled to death. CBS offers $5000 for information leading to the conviction of her killer.

Then, The Line-Up starring William Johnstone, originally broadcast August 3, 1950, 75 years ago, Hit and Run Driver. Two young girls have been killed by a hit-and-run driver. What did they have in common?

Followed by Inner Sanctum Mysteries, originally broadcast August 3, 1941, 84 years ago, The Tell-Tale Heart starring Boris Karloff. The deaf man who could hear everything meets the blind man who can see it all. They take up residence in an old abandoned mill.

Finally. Lum and Abner, originally broadcast August 3, 1942, 83 years ago, Thinks Baby is a Lost King.  A mysterious reply to Abner's letter leads Lum to conclude that the baby is a king!
