Then, The Whistler, originally broadcast June 25, 1950, 75 years ago, Manhunt.  A man leading a dual life kills a blackmailer, then is forced to resume his dual identities once again. 

Followed by I Was a Communist For The FBI starring Dana Andrews, originally broadcast June 25, 1952, 73 years ago, A Riot Made to Order.   Cvetic uses a sprinkler system to foil the plans of the Party to cause a riot and create sympathy for the Communists. 

Finally, Lum and Abner, originally broadcast June 25, 1942, 83 years ago, the Rumor Backfires. Lum gets a report from Mousie in excruciating detail. Lum's plan didn't work too well, though.

Followed by The Adventures of Philip Marlowe starring Gerald Mohr, originally broadcast June 21, 1950, 75 years ago, The Gold Cobra. Marlowe is hired by Roth Winkman, a character right out of Dickens, to deliver a gold cobra to Chicago. A real snake puts some bite into the case. 

Then, Richard Diamond, Private Detective starring Dick Powell, originally broadcast June 21, 1953, 72 years ago, The Missing Night Watchman.  A jewelry company has been robbed of $50,000 in gems, and the night watchman has disappeared and is later found dead. The clue is in the Buddha! 

Finally, Dear Adolph, originally broadcast June 21, 1942, 83 years ago, Letter From an American Farmer starring Raymond Massey.  The first show of the series. Produced in co-operation with The Council For Democracy. Raymond Massey, portraying an American farmer (and sounding more like his portrayal of Abraham Lincoln), writes his letter to Hitler.

Fields remembers his father, a doctor who treated a man for yellow jaundice for years before learning he was a Chinaman. Charlie wants to call W. C. Fields "Dad." Bill tells him to "go look in the woodpile."

Followed by The Walgreens 44th Birthday Party, originally broadcast June 20, 1945, 80 years ago.   A Seventh War Loan Program. The first tune is, "Those Caissons Go Rolling Along." Paulette Goddard appears in a drama titled, "The Most Beautiful Girl In Missouri." Sidney Fields substitutes for Bud Abbott in a "Who's On First" routine with Lou Costello.

Crime on a Thursday


We start with the news of the day in history


First up, Johnny Madero, Pier 23 starring Jack Webb, originally aired June 19, 1947—78 years ago. In “Find Pete Sutro,” Johnny, a waterfront tough guy, finds himself tangled in multiple murders. It's a gritty performance in the style Webb would later make famous in Dragnet.


Next, Challenge of the Yukon starring Paul Sutton, also from June 19, 1947. In “Grizzly,” a prospector is shot and a Mountie is murdered by a pair posing as trappers. They enlist Grizzly Martin to fetch supplies—and attempt to persuade him to kill Sgt. Preston.


Then it’s Dangerous Assignment with Brian Donlevy, originally broadcast June 19, 1951, 74 years ago. In “Assignment: Japan,” U.S. agent Steve Mitchell is sent to Tokyo to stop a plot aimed at blowing up participants in a peace conference.


Following that, Nick Carter, Master Detective starring Lon Clark, from June 19, 1949, 76 years ago. In “The Case of the Perfect Alibi,” a criminal murders the prosecutor who sent his brother to the electric chair—while he appears to be 150 miles away, speaking with the Chief of Police!


Finally, a lighter touch with Lum and Abner, first broadcast June 19, 1942. In “How to Boss Your Wife,” Abner shares his wisdom on handling women… while his wife Lizabeth quietly sews on a train!

Then, Calling All Cars, originally broadcast June 18, 1935, 90 years ago, The Chinese Puzzle.  A Chinese merchant has been found hatchet murdered in his San Diego store. 

Followed by I Was a Communist for the FBI starring Dana Andrews, originally broadcast June 18, 1952, 73 years ago, Tight Wire.  The FBI assigns Cvetic the job of bugging a Communist Party meeting hall. 

Finally, Lum and Abner, originally broadcast June 18, 1942, 83 years ago, Cedric to Join the Marines?   Cedric decides to become an officer in the Marine Corps!
