W.E.B. Du Bois continues to share the struggles of the black race in the south. As the need for education is still high, it is facing the cries of southeners to be a waste of funds by the states and not efficient in its purpose. Yet, Mr. Du Bois uses statistics to show that the truth of the matter is far different. Graduation rates are growing in the south. The future can still be better with educated members of all races working together for a common goal.

As we continue in this informative book by W.E.B. Du Bois, I continue to find myself thinking how much I would have enjoyed meeting him. In chapter 5 we read of the growth in black education in the south. Mr. Du Bois speaks of a great evil that rest upon our civilization to this day, the evil of money. He speaks of the purpose of not just black universities but all universities and the role they should play in life. We see that early on, the great realization that not all humans are meant for scholarly studies but instead need trades, is understood. This is a thought that has been forgoten for to long and now raises it's ugly head in this day.

Today's reading of Chapter 4 brings us to W.E.B. Du Bois time as a teacher. He introduces us not only to his pupils but to the families that made up the community. This chapter also shows his love for his kids and people of the community as he returns to check on their progress.

In this chapter, Mr. Du Bois brings great insight to the rise of Booker T. Washington. We get a glimpse of the support for Mr. Washington's actions during this difficult time in history. At the same time Mr. Du Bois shows that you can support someone's positive actions but still stand against other actions that bring more harm than good to a cause.

In today's episode Du Bois takes us into the early days of emancipation. Sharing his knowledge of the Freedmen's Bureau, we see what went right and what went wrong with this agency. Facing change, a glimmer of hope became simply more despair and untrust.

One of the most insightful books ever written in my opinion. This book helps us understand the challenges and thoughts of many African Americans post Emmancipation.

In this episode we will be wrapping up the book, "Favorite Fairy Tales" arranged by Logan Marshall. Our last two stories take us on a journey with two young kids that overcome several great obstacles. In so doing, they enjoy a happy ending. The other story is about a princess who gets taken advantage of by a servant. I find it refreshing to read this story as it reminds me, that the truth will always come out in the end.

This is our next to last podcast of the book "Favorite Fairy Tales" arranged by Logan Marshall. We once again go on a journey to grandma's house with her granddaughter Little Red Riding Hood. This time the story is a little different than the earlier version I read. The second story is the seven great adventures of Sinbad The Sailor. We will join in him in both the good and bad of his great journeys. We will join him in meeting monsters, being stranded on islands, even the troubles of being married to his great escapes and making it back home.

We continue from the book "Favorite Fairy Tales" by Logan Marshall today. Our first story, is about a young poor boy. It is a heart warming story of a dream to have money and a better life. Through the kindness of strangers and sacrafice, a dream becomes reality. The second story is a tale of a husband who is not at all who he appears to be to his wife. We hear how through her curiosity she discovers the truth. Then with a little luck and some good timing, we learn how she gets away from her husband.

Now that Christmas is over, we are jumping back into a wonderful book that takes our imaginations to many wonderful places. Today's episode has us walking in a land full of giants and danger.
