On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about another disturbing loss for the Trojans, falling on the road to 24-17 to Minnesota. Coach Hyde has a lot of thoughts on this game, one that USC needed to and should have won if it had any belief that this team was capable of competing for a spot in the College Football Playoffs.
Coach Hyde thinks that this team needs to make adjustments to survive in the world of Big Ten football, as there are many differences from what USC is seeing now as opposed to what it saw back in the Pac-12. It starts with being more physical in every aspect of the game, and while the Trojans have improved in that area, there is still a lot more work to do. There are more ‘bring your lunch pail to work’ games in this conference and USC needs to be ready for contests turning into a rock fight, with fewer possessions and blocking and tackling taking precedence over a finesse passing game.
