“I don’t really have anything to talk about.”

As coaches, we need to be prepared to hear this response. It happens more often than you might anticipate, and it’s not always bad.

Before rushing in to try to fill the space or problem solve, remember it’s our job to step back, get curious, and ask questions. Once we understand their why, we can meet our clients where they are and help them make the most of their sessions.

A couple of weeks ago, while under the weather with COVID, I was stuck in bed for three days. I turned to social media to pass the time and distract myself from my discomfort.

That’s where the comparison monster came to find me.

I fell down the Facebook rabbit hole and compared myself with every accomplishment and success I saw on my feed. The longer I scrolled, the worse I felt.

It wasn’t until I started feeling better and returned to my routine that I looked back and realized exactly what had happened. Hindsight clarified how I could have better supported myself during that time.

That’s the inspiration behind this episode. Today I’m sharing the five things you can do to escape the comparison trap when you find yourself stuck and how I applied them to help make sense of what I was experiencing.

It’s human to want to belong.

But for many of us, that predisposition turns into people pleasing and making decisions that might not be best for us.

Over the years, I’ve had to work to become more aware of my people-pleasing tendencies, get comfortable with the discomfort of other people’s disapproval, and focus on the things that matter most.

Canva is a valuable tool that can help you to build ease into your coaching business.

If you’re not in a position to hire a designer, Canva makes getting started with designing your content very accessible. Once you’ve worked with a graphic designer to build your brand and all its elements, Canva is an excellent tool for utilizing your brand assets. 

It’s a resource I use daily in my business because it makes creating graphics so simple.

What can you do when someone copies or steals something you’ve created?

It’s happened to me more than once in the six-plus years I’ve been in business, and unfortunately, this is something you’re likely to encounter at some point in your coaching journey.

Today I’m sharing my experiences and practical guidance for handling situations where someone copies your free or paid material, repurposes your content without crediting you, or infringes on your intellectual property, whether or not it’s been trademarked or copyrighted. I’m also sharing what happens internally with our thoughts and emotions and how to reframe the situation so we can move forward a little more at peace with it.

With this episode, I want to ensure that you feel equipped and prepared to handle whatever comes your way if you discover that someone has been stealing your stuff, whether it’s an image you’ve posted or the contents of your paid program.

I would do many things differently if I were starting my coaching practice today.

Recently, I received a question from a listener: “Knowing what you know now, what would you have done differently in starting your business?”

I’m well into my seventh year of running a coaching business, and I can hardly believe it’s been that long. Inspired by this question, I went back in time to look through old emails and files to refresh my memory and see what I was doing in 2016.

Today I’m sharing the lessons I’ve learned while building Coach with Clarity and what I would do now if I were starting my coaching business from scratch today.
