In this episode of Deep Dive Drive, recorded on my morning commute, I reflect on a lesson I learned the hard way early in my coaching journey:
The standards you walk past are the standards you accept.
As a younger coach, I used to turn a blind eye to certain things — poor body language, negative behaviours, sloppy habits, language that didn’t align with the environment I wanted to create. I told myself it wasn’t a big deal.
But it was.
Over time, those small things chipped away at the culture, the standards, and the overall quality of sessions. And the truth was simple — by not addressing it, I was allowing it.
In this episode, I talk about:
- Why ignoring small behaviours leads to bigger problems
- How culture is shaped by what you tolerate
- The importance of acting early and consistently
- Why leadership requires uncomfortable conversations
- How protecting standards protects the environment
This episode is about ownership as a coach and leader. If you don’t step in, you’re silently approving what’s happening.
Standards don’t slip overnight — they slip gradually when they aren’t protected.
If you’re building a team, a programme, or a culture, this episode is a reminder that leadership isn’t just about what you say — it’s about what you allow.
Protect the standards. Protect the environment.
One drive at a time.
