We all know ‘leaders’ who are more focused on themselves than the people they’re leading. Scripture isn’t naive to that reality. In fact, we meet two such leaders in today’s passages. But in contrast to power-seeking leadership, we see David embody peace-making leadership. And in so doing, he points us to Jesus, the leader we truly need today. Listen along as we explore 2 Samuel chapters 2-5 to see how a true leader pursues peace, not power.

As we begin 2 Samuel together, we open to a surprising scene: David grieves for the dead King who was trying to kill him. Why isn't he happy about this? The moment has finally come: Jesus now faces the crucifixion he's been focused on for so long. It's  a harrowing scene. But part of what draws us in, perhaps, is that we see ourselves in this scene. What if we are like the soldiers, religious leaders and criminals that mock him - even kill him? As we'll see, our sinful deeds caused Jesus' shameful death. And the more we sit with that reality, the more thankful we'll be for what Jesus has done

Both of them have some level of regret over sin or concern for Jesus, but they don’t manage to respond rightly to him. How can we avoid the errors they make? Dan walks us through Matthew 27:1-26 to show us the danger of being close, but not close enough - and the only way to fix it.

Why is there so much opposition to Jesus? Ultimately, it comes back to who he claims to be.
