Mit dem Daiquiri widmen wir uns diesmal einem unserer Allzeit-Lieblingsdrinks, nicht nur wegen seines Variantenreichtums, sondern auch der in seiner Einfachheit schlummernden eleganten Vollkommenheit. Seit dem 19. Jahrhundert hat er auf seinem in Cuba begonnenen Siegeszug nicht nur unzählige Kehlen erfrischt, sondern sich auch mit großen Namen verknüpft und die gesamte Barkultur maßgeblich mitgeprägt, sei es als vornehmer Klassiker, alkoholisch potentes Massenprodukt oder flüssige Süßigkeit. Wir tauchen wie üblich zuerst etwas in die Geschichte ein, beleuchten Varianten und finden natürlich auch in diesem Thema einen Anlass zum Philosophieren und Dogmatisieren, selbstverständlich ohne Anspruch auf Allgemeingültigkeit, was wir natürlich nie zugeben würden. Dass wir manchmal doch fehlbar sind, wird leider beim Thema „Zucker in Spirituosen“ deutlich, denn hier müssen wir Stefan im Nachhinein doch recht geben, obwohl wir diese unglaublichen Zahlen nicht für möglich gehalten hätten. Die einleitenden Worte haben wir diesmal dem liebenswürdigen James Buntin, Brand Ambassador bei Balvenie, zu verdanken, den wir bei unseren Freunden vom Gekkos erleben durften.
Den aufmerksamen Twitter-Followern, die sich über die große Zeitdifferenz zwischen Aufnahme und Veröffentlichung der Sendung wundern, sei versichert, dass der einzige Grund hierfür natürlich nur die bessere jahreszeitliche Harmonie mit den folgenden Drinks ist.

Der Barconvent Berlin 2016 hat so viele Eindrücke bei uns hinterlassen, dass wir unmöglich über alle sprechen können. Na gut, dass wir einige gewichtige Themen in unserem diesjährigen Bericht von der (zumindest für uns) wichtigsten Fachmesse des Jahres ausgespart haben, könnte auch an dem allgegenwärtigen Gin liegen, zu dem wir dort verführt wurden. Die Unvollkommenheit unseres Berichts steht aber auch symbolisch für ein zentrales Gefühl auf dem BCB: dem der Überforderung von der schieren Menge an Ständen, Eindrücken, Vorträgen und Information.
Trotzdem hatte wir auch Zeit, es zu genießen, alte Freunde wiederzusehen, gute und auch weniger gute Tropfen zu verkosten und reichlich Nachfragen über die Neuheiten unserer flüssigen Leidenschaft zu stellen. Letzteres haben wir auch in zwei kleinen Interviews dokumentiert, die Ihr in der Folge hören könnt.
Für den Eröffnungsaufsprecher danken wir Arnd Henning Heissen aus dem Curtain Club und dem Fragrances, dessen Gastfreundschaft wir genießen durften.

Kurz vor Weihnachten ist in Deutschland traditionell die Zeit der Zitrusfrüchte und so haben die Ur-Podcaster Zitronatzitrobert, Mandaristoph und Pampelmustefan den Advent genutzt, um eine Folge über dieses Thema zusammenzukreuzen. Wenn man gelegentliche Kalauer verzeihend übersieht, läßt sich hier ein Überblick über eine jahrtausendealte Geschichte, unterschiedliche Ordnungssystematiken und chemische Zusammensetzungen gewinnen. Familien sind eine Frage der Definition und so erfreuen wir uns mit all unseren Brüdern und Schwestern im Geiste an erfrischenden Drinks mit unseren geliebten Vitamin-C-Lieferanten; Und nein, wir sprechen nicht von Zwiebel-Smashes.
Den Opener spricht ein alter Bekannter, diesmal in seiner Muttersprache, der ähnlich gerne wie auch wir Mythen der Barkultur auf den Grund geht: Jeffrey Morgenthaler.

Fast ein Jahr haben wir weinseelig in unseren Fässern gelegen und das 28. Thema des Cocktailpodcasts heranreifen lassen: Weinbrände.
Zu lange haben wir dieses Feld unseren Vätern und Großvätern überlassen, denn eine moderne Bar ohne Cognac und seine Brüder ist möglich, aber sinnlos. Wir klären, was Weinbrand aus europäischer Sicht ist, stellen verschiedene Spezialitäten wie Armagnac, spanischen Brandy und deutschen Weinbrand vor und grenzen zu verwandten Produkten ab. Jahrhundertealte, wechselhafte Geschichte, Imagewandel und kryptische Altersbezeichnungen sind dabei für uns ebenso relevant wie Produktempfehlungen und Beispiele für die Verwendbarkeit in kalten und warmen Mischgetränken.

Auf dem 31C3, dem 31ten Chaos Communication Congress haben wir (nicht wirklich wir — eigentlich nur Robert) “uns” mit den geschätzten Kollegen vom Bildungstrinken zusammengetan und vor Ort, auf der Bühne des Sendezentrums, eine Premiere begangen: Live-Cocktail-Podcasting – vor Publikum.
Thematisch haben wir uns mit der Funktion einer High-End Cocktailbar befasst und versucht zu erläutern wie man eine solche hacken kann. Außerdem haben wir versucht die Nerdszene “Computer/IT” mit der Nerdszene “Cocktail” in Relation zu setzen. Um unsere mangelnde Vorbereitung zu kaschieren haben wir das Live-Publikum mit Cocktails in Stimmung gebracht.
Das ganze ist auch Live gestreamt worden, sowohl in Audio als auch Video — sobald die Videoaufzeichnung zur Verfügung steht werden wir diese hier ebenfalls veröffentlichen.

26 Folgen liegen hinter uns und lange Jahre in unseren Homebars. Viel hat sich in der Zeit angesammelt: Zuhörerfragen, Ergänzungen zu vergangenen Themen, Fehlkäufe und ungenutzte Schätze. In der heutigen Folge misten wir ordentlich aus. Wir schauen, was sich im Podcast angesammelt hat und machen uns Gedanken darüber, welche Teile unserer Bars wirklich essentiell sind. Was waren Fehlkäufe und was wäre das erste, was wir uns zulegen würden, wenn wir plötzlich unsere Bars verlören und wieder bei Null anfangen müßten? Wie nicht anders zu erwarten, ergeben sich da bei vier Podcastern vier teilweise konträre Meinungen, da es sich zu nicht unerheblichem Teil um ein reines Geschmacksthema handelt.
Worin wir uns aber einig waren, war die Wahl unseres Openers: Jeffrey Morgenthaler.

Robert und Stefan waren auf dem Bar Convent Berlin (BCB) 2014 und dem 4ten German Rum Festival in Berlin. In dieser Sendung berichten wir von unseren Eindrücken und Erlebnissen. Wir fassen ein bißchen zusammen, lassen Revue passieren und Ihr bekommt einige Liveaufnahmen direkt vom Bar Convent in der Sendung zu hören.
Nach einem kurzen allgemeinen Überblick, sprechen wir über das Rumfest und von den Bar-Awards am Montag. Anschließend über unsere Wermut Tour, die uns unter anderem zu den Ständen von Belsazar und La Quintinye geführt hat. Danach sind wir bei Penninger und Gin Sul zum Gin probieren vorbei gegangen. Im weiteren Verlauf der Sendung beleuchten wir die die Vorträge, die uns besonders gut gefallen haben und versuchen herauszufinden, was es mit Craft Destilling und Craft Brewing auf sich hat. Die Sendung ist gespickt mit vielen Interviews und Anekdoten. Hier noch die versprochenen Links zum Interview mit Steve Schneider und zum Bildungstrinken. Einen guten Drink zu zaubern macht Spaß. Eine ganze Cocktailparty zu bestreiten kann auch Spaß machen, bedarf aber einer guten Planung oder wird dadurch zumindest sicherer ein Erfolg. Worüber man sich dabei bereits im Vorfeld Gedanken machen muß, überlegen wir uns in der heutigen Folge, die sich vor allem an die begeisterten Amateure unter den Hörern richtet, die nicht am Abend im Angesicht unzähliger Gäste merken wollen, daß sie die Gläser oder das Eis vergessen haben.
Wir beleuchten hierfür verschiedene Arten von Partys, wobei wir uns auf eigene Erfahrungen stützen und hin und wieder auch kleinere Anekdoten erzählen.

Passend zur kalten Jahreszeit wenden wir uns diesmal der kristallinen Cocktailzutat zu. In den meisten Mischgetränken nicht wegzudenken, aber auch wissenschaftlich von höchstem Interesse, verdient es Eis, von verschiedenen Seiten beleuchtet zu werden, sei es mineralogisch, ästhetisch oder handwerklich. Wir erklären Hintergründe, räumen mit manchen Mythen auf und stellen unseren persönlichen Umgang mit dem gefrorenen Naß vor.
