The former Texas police officer who shot and critically injured an unarmed 17-year-old who was eating a hamburger in his car last week has been arrested and faces charges of aggravated assault, the San Antonio Police Department said.
Officer James Brennand, 25, was fired by the department after shooting Erik Cantu on Oct. 2 in a McDonald's parking lot. Cantu's family said Tuesday that the teen is "still unconscious and is on life support."
Brennand was responding to an unrelated call at the restaurant and saw Cantu sitting in the driver's seat of his car in the parking lot eating the burger. Brennand reported he believed Cantu's car had evaded him at an attempted traffic stop and that he suspected the car was stolen.

Hey Identifier,
https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2022/10/10/kanye-west-antisemitic-tweet-musk-texas/
The rapper Ye, formerly Kanye West, sent an Instagram post Friday suggesting fellow musician Sean “Diddy” Combs was controlled by Jewish people — a common antisemitic trope. Within hours, Instagram had removed the post and locked his account.
That sent Ye to Twitter, where he was publicly welcomed back by Elon Musk, who may soon take ownership of the company. Within hours, however, Ye had posted a separate antisemitic tweet that he would go “death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE.” Twitter, like Instagram, was quick to block the post and lock his account.
But a conservative-led movement to rein in what some see as “censorship” by Silicon Valley giants is poised to alter how they approach such decisions. Between a growing field of state laws that seek to restrict content moderation and Elon Musk’s determination to loosen Twitter’s policies, posts such as Ye’s could soon become more prevalent online.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The death of a Los Angeles Police Department officer during a training exercise was "a tragic accident" that occurred when he and another officer fell to the ground while grappling during a simulation, according to a report released Tuesday by the department.
The report countered claims made by an attorney for Officer Houston Tipping's mother, who filed a damages claim against the city alleging in part that the officer was beaten by multiple other officers in a scenario meant to "simulate a mob."
The attorney representing Tipping's family on Monday alleged that Tipping had made a report about a sexual assault involving several officers before his death. The attorney claimed that Tipping was intentionally attacked during the exercise as an act of retaliation because he had filed the report.
The 32-year-old was paralyzed in the training exercise back in May and died three days later. The LAPD has said it was an accident, but Tipping's mother has since filed a wrongful death claim.

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/10/07/us/politics/herschel-walker-abortion.html
ATLANTA — A woman who has said Herschel Walker, the Republican Senate nominee in Georgia, paid for her abortion in 2009 told The New York Times that he urged her to terminate a second pregnancy two years later. They ended their relationship after she refused.
In a series of interviews, the woman said Mr. Walker had barely been involved in their now 10-year-old son’s life, offering little more than court-ordered child support and occasional gifts.
The woman disclosed the new details about her relationship with Mr. Walker, who has anchored his campaign on an appeal to social conservatives as an unwavering opponent of abortion even in cases of rape and incest, after the former football star publicly denied that he knew her. He called her “some alleged woman” in a radio interview on Thursday.
The Times is withholding the name of the woman, who insisted on anonymity to protect her son.
In the interviews, she described the frustration of watching Republicans rally around Mr. Walker, dismiss her account and bathe him in prayer and praise, calling him a good man.
She said she wanted Georgia voters to know what kind of man Mr. Walker was to her.
“As a father, he’s done nothing. He does exactly what the courts say, and that’s it,” she said. “He has to be held responsible, just like the rest of us. And if you’re going to run for office, you need to own your life.”

A self-described “incel” — involuntary celibate — charged with felony hate crimes after allegedly posting a video of himself sexually harassing and pepper-spraying women in Costa Mesa made his first court appearance Monday, following his arrest five days earlier.
Johnny Deven Young, 25, faces multiple felony assault and weapons-related charges with enhancements for the commission of alleged hate crimes, in addition to two misdemeanor counts of violating a person’s civil rights. He had been sought by police for months until his arrest in San Mateo County, Orange County district attorney’s officials said in a news release Tuesday.
Authorities believe the defendant assaulted or harassed six people in three separate incidents. On Nov. 21, Young allegedly approached a woman and a man near a bar in the Triangle Square shopping center as they were trying to help another friend who had fallen onto the ground, Costa Mesa police said. The defendant was accused of making lewd comments and asking to see the woman’s genitals, then spraying her and the man, who had attempted to stop Young, with a chemical agent.
Later, authorities became aware of footage allegedly posted to social media by Young in April depicting two other altercations he had with women in the same area. In one, the person filming the video approaches a woman who is in tears while walking through a parking garage. He asks if he can “hook up” with her almost immediately after she tells him that her car had just been stolen. After she rejects his advances, the person holding the camera makes comments about her genitals and cusses her out.
In the second incident in the video, the man recording it describes his penis to a group of women sitting on a bench. One of them kicks him, tells him to go away and throws an object at him. The man then pepper-sprays her and a woman standing behind her, as well as another who tried to stop him as he fled.
Young’s bail was set at $500,000 during his first court appearance Monday, and he remained in custody at the Theo Lacy Jail as of Tuesday. He was scheduled to appear for an arraignment hearing Oct. 22.
The public defender assigned to represent him could not immediately be reached for comment.
Young has a prior misdemeanor hate crime conviction in Nevada, O.C. D.A. officials said, and his last known city of residence was Las Vegas. Police there arrested him and one other man on suspicion of making false threats in an act of terrorism in August 2019. The two of them were accused of shouting “white power” and saying they were going to “shoot up the place” shortly before they were ejected from the XS Club at Encore, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Two Baylor women's basketball alumni who played under coach Kim Mulkey are speaking out against their former coach after she declined to comment on Brittney Griner's detainment in Russia.
Mulkey, who served as the Baylor Bears head coach from 2000-2021 and took over the LSU women's basketball team in 2021, was asked about her thoughts on Griner's situation following the Tigers' first practice of the season on Monday.
“I wanted to get your thoughts on the Britney Griner situation, I don’t think I’ve seen anything from you on that," a reporter from The Daily Advertiser, part of the USA TODAY Network, asked Mulkey, who replied, "And you won't."
Griner played for Mulkey at Baylor from 2009-13. The duo won a national championship together in 2012, Mulkey's second at Baylor, following a dominant undefeated 40-0 season. Griner was also named the women's Final Four most outstanding player.

https://www.cnn.com/2022/10/04/politics/trump-supreme-court-mar-a-lago-appeal/index.html
Former President Donald Trump asked the Supreme Court on Tuesday to intervene in the dispute over materials marked as classified that the FBI seized from his Mar-a-Lago estate this summer.
His emergency request with the Supreme Court is the latest example of the former President seeking to involve the justices in investigations that entangle him – at a time when the high court’s legitimacy in politically explosive cases is under intense scrutiny.
Trump is specifically asking the court to ensure that the more than 100 documents marked as classified are part of the special master’s review. The request, if granted, could bolster the former President’s attempt to challenge the search in court, as he has argued that he may have had a right, as a former president, to possess certain government documents, including documents potentially containing the country’s most sensitive secrets.

New York State is suing Donald Trump, his children and the Trump Organization for an alleged fraud spanning a decade. A federal appeals court gave the former president a huge setback in his fight in the Mar-a-Lago document probe. And that’s not all of Trump’s legal troubles. Former FBI special agent Asha Rangappa joins the show to help make sense of it all.

Body camera footage from an incident involving an SRO arresting a student at East Ridge High School has been released by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.
An affidavit shows 18-year-old Tauris Sledge was arrested after an incident with an SRO at East Ridge High School.
A video of the incident went viral Tuesday showing the officer dragging Sledge by his hair and backpack.
Sheriff Garrett says the East Ridge High School SRO, which an affidavit identifies as Tyler McRae, was called to the school’s gymnasium for the report of a disorder between an 18-year-old Tauris Sledge and a member of the school’s staff.
The coach had planned for a kickball game but the affidavit says Sledge refused to participate and said he was not feeling well.
But when it was free time Sledge started playing basketball.
When the coach addressed him about this, the affidavit says Sledge "puffed out his chest" and called the coach racist and other names.
The affidavit says McRae showed up while Sledge was 'loudly and aggressively' arguing with the coach in
