It doesn't actually involve quitting a job, but doing less at work—perhaps refusing to work overtime or answering emails outside of work hours.

Quiet quitting might be a response to burnout and stress, and a way for workers to reclaim their life back.

If you’ve been on TikTok in the past month or so, you might have heard of 'quiet quitting', something that’s rising in popularity among Gen Z and millennial professionals in particular. With 11.3 million views across all videos with the #quietquitting hashtag, it’s erupted in popularity of late. 

Despite the name, however, it doesn’t involve actually quitting a job. Rather, people are rejecting overachievement and endless hustle culture and choosing to set boundaries for themselves at work. That means doing less or simply doing the work that fulfills their job requirements and setting boundaries with their employers.

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (TND) — After their daughters were defeated at a state competition in Utah, parents reportedly asked for the winning athlete's gender to be investigated, believing she may be transgender.

Then, apparently prompted by the complaint lodged by those parents, the Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA) investigated the winning student, according to Deseret News.

The parents who filed the complaint with UHSAA were reportedly the parents of the two athletes who came in second and third place in the state competition.

UHSAA asked the school to help provide information about the winning athlete, which they did, a legislative representative for UHSAA reportedly said.

“The school went back to kindergarten and she’d always been a female," David Spatafore, the UHSAA’s legislative representative told the Utah Legislature’s Education Interim Committee on Wednesday.

The school dug into the winning student's records dating back to kindergarten to confirm that she was, indeed, female at a very young age.

If someone has been a female since kindergarten, it's very unlikely they ever transitioned genders," Spatafore indicated.

The investigation into the girl's gender identity was done without informing the student in question or her family, Spatafore added. Spatafore would not reveal the sport the girls competed in, nor the identity of the school that helped investigate.

We didn’t get to the parents or the student simply because if all of the questions about eligibility were answered by the school or the feeder system schools, there was no reason to make it a personal situation with a family or that athlete.” Spatafore explained to the committee.

When asked how the UHSAA usually handles complaints like this one, or how often student athletes are accused of being transgender, the Spatafore said his association has indeed received similar complaints.

UHSAA looks into each complaint, including ones where "an athlete doesn’t look feminine enough," Spatafore told the committee. In this case, Spatafore said the athlete in question apparently won first place "by a wide margin."

While he takes regular hiatuses from the platform, almost every time he returns to posting content on YouTube, he trends for multiple days in a row because of his infectious personality. There’s only a few weeks until the midterms, and President Joe Biden is starting beef on Twitter.

Earlier this week, Biden announced that the federal government would cancel up to $20,000 worth of federal student loans for millions of borrowers. While the internet’s reaction to the news was typical, the White House’s response to that reaction was not.

On Thursday, the White House’s official Twitter account called out Republican lawmakers who spent the last few days criticizing the administration’s student loan forgiveness plan. In a series of tweets, the White House name-dropped Republicans like Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA) and Matt Gaetz (FL) for taking out business loans during the pandemic that were later forgiven by the federal government — like the student loans that enraged them.

While the merits of that comparison are up for debate, it’s still an unusual strategy for a Democratic Party that has seemingly tried to hold itself to the Obama-era “when they go low, we go high” mantra. Instead of meeting Republicans face-to-face in their online culture war over the last few years, Democrats have focused on policy wins, rather than partisan shouting matches.

A Black pastor who was arrested in May after a neighbor reported a "suspicious person" in a yard watering flowers, said he is considering filing a racial discrimination lawsuit against his local police department.

After returning from his church's Sunday service, Pastor Michael Jennings of Childersburg, Alabama, said he was doing a neighborly deed -- watering his out-of-town neighbor's flowers on May 22, 2022 at their request -- when a woman down the street called police to report a suspicious person and car.

The neighbor who called 911 said she did not recognize Jennings at first, according to body camera footage released this week.

When responding to the call, police asked Jennings for an I.D., the video depicts.

On Aug. 12, AI-powered rapper FN Meka signed a record deal with Capitol Records, becoming the first digital artist to sign with a major label. Eleven days later, the deal was terminated amidst calls that the character promoted "gross stereotypes" of Black culture, as reported by the New York Times.

The voice behind the character has also come forward to say to XXL that he has never been paid for his involvement in the project.

The virtual rapper has a large digital presence, with 10.3 million TikTok followers and 222,000 Instagram followers. He was created by media company Factory New, which is cofounded by Anthony Martini and Brandon Le.

The two men told Music Business News last year that FN Meka was created by "using thousands of data points compiled from video games and social media." They also say that while the character's voice comes from a real human, his lyrics and all other elements of his rapping are generated by AI.

Since the digital rapper's recent online attention, FN Meka has received negative criticism for his mannerisms and online presence. Many took issue with the character using the N-word in his lyrics, and others called out depictions of police brutality on the rapper's social media.
