Is it okay to go on a first date or casual date on Valentine's Day? Too much pressure or does it matter? Many people said yes, and then there's Chelsea from Elk Grove. She said No Way, and for her it makes sense. One of the houses in East Sac that was featured in the movie, "Lady Bird," (set here in Sacramento), just sold for a record amount. Guess which house and for how much! In today's "Good Stuff," a fantastic military surprise homecoming that happened at yesterday's Kings game at the Golden 1 Center. And with the Academy Awards coming up in less than 2 weeks, what do the movies "The Color Purple," "Shawshank Redemption," and "It's A Wonderful Life," all have in common?
Our huge Johnny Cash mural.....the 15 story one at 15th and L, was just voted the best wall mural art in the world! If you haven't seen it in person it's impressive (side of the Renaissance Inn that faces L street). And it's big week for the late Johnny Cash as the love letter he wrote his wife, June Carter Cash, back in 1994 was just named the most romantic love letter in U.S. History. With that in mind AND since we're a week and a day from Valentine's Day we asked, what's the most romantic thing that's ever been done for you. Gabby was very happy to tell us....although not sure how her husband felt about it. And we're getting a new Dunkin Donuts! It'll open this summer on Manzanita not too far from Madison. That led is to discovering how and where you can get "free' donuts this Saturday. Is Cody in?
Snow!! Placerville looked like a ski run this morning which enabled Cody to do her favorite radio thing ever: read school closings! A big country star is having an outdoor block party....in 12 degree weather! We asked what does your hometown smell like? Many of the answers were less than nose-worthy, and some of them were outstanding! When you go to your dentist they are playing music....and we found a "center" that actually programs dental office music. They actually have a top 40 playlist of dental songs! And Tom mistakes a man for a woman! (honest mistake...we think!)
The Super Bowl had it's lowest ratings in years. Maybe it was the matchup, maybe it was the so so commercials. Even at that there were some good moments including one that involved a football legend. Tom saw a guy trimming his mustache with huge scissors. And Pat has the story of a guy driving a motorcycle while wearing a specific style of cartoon clothing! Today's "Good Stuff," is an unbelievable story about a 4 year old boy and how he says he survived two cold days and freezing nights alone in the woods (or was he alone?!). And a Stockton burglar so inept that she may have to move to Florida.
Chicago is colder than Mars. Today it is. The Polar Vortex that's gripping the midwest and east has temperatures in some places at minus 19 with a windchill of minus 50! What's the coldest you've ever been? Cody has a pretty surprising answer! 10 year old Anthony has one dream: to play basketball for the Sacramento Kings. Yesterday he was cut from his 4th grade team. How did he react? Today he went to each person who made the team, shook their hand and congratulated them. Failure will many times make you stronger. Sarah has a great story about how failure, or predicted failure became her fuel for success. Oh, and we'll have an Anthony update for you Thursday morning at 7:10!
Cody escaped her escape room! Did she like it?? Pat may have discovered a baseball first, A man in Roseville loses his job....wait'll you hear how it happened. And there's something very simple can do to help and man who is both autistic and blind celebrate his birthday (and it's so simple).
Today is national compliment day and one of us received a "great" compliment from someone in our family! (that might be sarcasm). Jimmie Allen and Tyler Rich are just two of the performers doing something really cood right here in California. In today's "Good Stuff," kids spell Love completely different than the rest of us. They spell it T-I-M-E!. And what's your social media pet peeve? Tom has one, Cody has 2, and Pat has a list!
Twitter has blown up the past couple of days on ways you draw the letter X. We wanted to find out what it all meant. Turns out one of us hasn't been paying attention! Pat had one of those life defining moments at a gas station (where else would this happen?!). We're betting something similar has happened to you. Based on the new machine Luke Bryan's kids have, if they weren't already the most popular kids in their neighborhood they sure are now! And in today's Good Stuff, meet the high school boy with down syndrome who hit a half court basketball shot in a game. He'll make you smile and then squeeze your heart with love.
Tom finally saw A Star Is Born and didn't like it. Why? He couldn't get past Bradly Cooper's continuous sweating. Part of his Bradly's character or not it kept Tom from focusing. We asked if there was a movie that had something so distracting it kept you from enjoying it. Yep! Take a listen and see if there's one that has you agreeing. For years we've been saying that the dumbest criminals and criminal stories come from Florida. We have 2 PRIME excamples that happened over the weekend. And in The Good Stuff, Dutch Bros raises an incredible amount of money for the Officer Natalie Corona Memorial Fund while a fairly big country star shows up to sing at her service.
Cody had a dream that involved Pat's family going on vacation with her family. She and Pat's son Lucas were, ahhh, friendly. I feel creepy even typing this. Pat has some advice for Cody (wouldn't you?!). Tom got a letter from a company that wants him to be cremated (slightly disturbing to get that in the mail). There'a a fundraiser today at all area Dutch Bros for the police officer from Davis, Natalie Corona, who lost her life in the line of duty. We hope you can go support it. And Wendy from Auburn, who's a very funny lady, checks in with a funny work dream.
