Getting songs placed in film/tv is ALL about WHO you know, the Research and the Music. Today we are going to talk about the RESEARCH! Get out your notebook because there are a lot of moving parts!

Think about this: If you have to try to be authentic, you aren’t authentic yet. It is all tied into finding your voice.  It takes time and paying attention to who you are and what your sound is adding up to be. But it does mean you have to work at it and stay with it till your authenticity emerges.

Today we are going to discuss what to do (and not do) when you have a meeting with a music publisher.  When you meet with a music publisher, you shouldn’t just meet with any music publisher.  You should do your homework to make sure the music publisher is someone you can work with, someone that has had success or seems to be in a position to have a breakthrough.  

Today we are going to discuss “Solo, Duo or Full Band”. I hope that this information helps you figure out where you are as an artist and where you should be headed.

Today I want to encourage you to PUSH YOURSELF.  This industry is a fast paced moving industry but takes forever to get the attention of decision makers.   You must push yourself! If you are taking a nap, someone else is out working you.

If I asked you to describe who you are as an artist, can you tell me in a sentence or two?  What you are describing is your “BRAND”.

Have you ever been in an art museum and looked at art?   You stand there and look and mentally evaluate why you like the art.  And painters and sculptures are constantly looking at art. To know what is out there but also evaluating it.  We should also be doing this. Ask yourself this question, “What is my favorite song? And why?”

We are in June and half the year is over! Let's look back and look forward. Don't just "think" back over the last six month. Get your calendar out and a notebook and write this stuff down.
