Today, I’m joined by Farai Munjoma, Founder & CEO of the Shasha Network, an organisation dedicated to equipping 50 million youths in Africa with digital access, soft skills and economic pathways!!
Farai is someone whose career path is anything but linear. He has worked across Africa including Zimbabwe, Uganda, Kenya, and Mauritius (one of my favourite places on the planet), before working most recently in the UK and USA.
Crossing borders and breaking boundaries is exactly what makes Farai’s work that’s rooted in purpose so interesting.
In this conversation, we’ll talk about the reality of non-linear careers, how to make decisions when you don’t have everything figured out, and what it really means to find fulfilment in your work.
So grab a coffee, settle in, and let’s sip into that inspiration!
Key Takeaways:
"Seeing is becoming": Farai's career path was sparked by seeing a pioneer alumnus, which challenged the conventional "doctor, lawyer, engineer" narrative and provided a tangible example of what else possible.
"Find your wave and ride it": Success comes from finding your unique path, not mimicking others. This requires being open ("available") and leveraging your specific skills ("what you have in your hands").
"Serve and learn": Pivots were driven by a feeling of excitement and a desire to serve, not by strategic calculation. This mindset unlocked access to opportunities and knowledge.
"Don't unpack in the downness": Tough days are temporary. The key is to avoid letting setbacks define your identity and to lean on community for perspective and support.
