Samso Insight Episode 96: This is about the Exploration Discovery of Gruyere. We invited Ian Murray and Justin Osborne who were part of the discovery team at Gold Road Resources Limited (ASX: GOR) to share their experiences. The Discovery of the Gruyere Gold Deposit has shown that "theories" are to be challenged. Currently, the resource sits at nine million ounces of gold.

I have always been fascinated with this discovery. I remember looking at this belt in my university days. I have always known about it and I remember people telling me that the Yamarna Belt was not the same age and will never be endowed with mineralisation.

When I first came across the Gold Road discovery, its significance did not dawn upon me till much later. It was when I started to gather knowledge about discoveries, that I learnt of the Gruyere deposit.

For me, it has been quite a journey to get someone to talk to about discoveries, and when I realised that I could have both Ian Murray and Justin Osborne to share their experiences on Samso, it got me all excited and fired up.

     

I was specifically interested in how they made the decisions, or the potential of the wrong decisions. As we all know, it is the small things that are most important in making decisions in business.

     

We spoke about the need to look for mineral systems as opposed to chasing commodities. What was it like when the results came rolling on that faithful day?

  One of the critical decisions that the company made was to take a hiatus from exploration activities and work on strategies.

We discussed what those strategies were and how the market and all the parts of the business reacted.

Justin talks about his entry to the company and how the discovery progressed as they worked to find out how big the discovery really was.

As Justin and Ian share their thoughts, they both agreed that the pivoting move was the Goldfields Joint Venture. In hindsight, was this the deal making decision?

Rooster Talk Episode 62 is all about why Chalice Mining Limited (ASX: CHN) chose those targets.   Venture Minerals Limited (ASX:VMS) has just received some interesting news on their Thor JV with Chalice Mining.   The Thor JV has been one of the company's assets that has an active exploration program. It is an important part of the portfolio of assets which is worked by Chalice Mining. We have had a Coffee with Samso that was dedicated to that topic (Julimar's Twin Brother - The Thor Project - Venture Minerals Limited (ASX: VMS) - Episode 83) as there is a lot of interest riding on what Chalice is doing at the project.

To me, the recent announcement that was published on the 13th July has something that is very interesting. The area that they have identified is at what I thought was a jog or an area where some extension may have happened. This is fairly observant from the magnetic image where is this distinct bend.

  This is a very early stage target and I am not saying that there is a X on the ground to discover. What is nice to see is the coincidence with the geophysics. The subtle nature of the wording in the announcement is not consistent with my observation.   What I mean is that if they did not find anything geochemically at that spot, I would have been disappointed. Coffee with Samso with Guy Le Page, Managing Director of Mount Ridley Mines Limited (ASX: MRD) is all about the REE story.   One of the best kind of exploration stories are those that have substance and have a reasonable potential for it to come true.   The Mount Ridley REE project is something that stands out from the crowd. As an observer of the recent REE announcements coming out of the woodwork, I am learning bits and pieces. My understanding of the REE industry has been largely from my Coffee with Samso with Northern Minerals Limited (ASX: NTU).   The appearance of REE in Ionic Clays have made a splurge in recent times. I don't have much understanding and this was a great opportunity to talk to someone in this recent trend. It was refreshing to be able to talk to industry and learn whether REEs are REEs or Not.   In this episode of Coffee with Samso, Guy shares with us the history and the contents of the MRD REE story. It was enlightening to hear from Guy that the REE deposit is not Ionic clays and that they actually don't know much about the project. The company is in a learning phase and the upcoming drilling will drive a clearer picture on the whole project in the next twelve months.   What I like about this project is that it is 35km from a port, have a highway, railway and a gas pipeline adjacent to the project. Rooster Talk Episode 61 is with Matthew Boyes, Managing Director of Red Dirt Metals Limited (ASX: RDT).   The Mt Ida project is fast becoming a double bonus for Red Dirt Metals as exploration is unveiling the gold credits.   When we were first introduced to the Mt. Ida project (Red Dirt Metals Limited (ASX:RDT) - A Lithium Gem within a Gold Mine.) in April 2022, we were just trying to understand the lithium potential. As the market was having a lithium boom, it would be foolish to not discuss what is the flavour of the last two years.   As we were talking through that Coffee with Samso with Matt Boyes, I was really interested with the gold potential. The Mt Ida story is very similar to what had occurred at Mt. Holland a few years ago. For those that have not heard the story, Mt Holland was all about the discovery of a lithium bonanza because of a phone call. Mt. Holland was a legitimate gold mining project but was later found to be a greater lithium project.   When you hear Matt talk about the lithium prospectivity in Mt. Ida, you can hear the frustration of not being able to rush into the gold project. The potential is yet to be finalised. In saying that, you can also feel the frustration of not being able to unwrapped the potential of the lithium prospectivity.   The fact that there is still a large package of landholding that the company has not explored is definitely high on the list of things to do.   Matt is definite that there will be a resource coming out for the lithium and in time, there will be a gold resource to be released as well.
