This week, we discussed all of the exciting happenings over the last week in Metsland! There were so many, we could hardly keep up!
We dove into the Mets' historic ninth-inning comeback against the Phillies and the team-wide efforts that made it possible, while tying it back to the thrilling combined no-hitter that the Mets twirled the prior week, also against the Phillies! Finally, we recounted meeting in person at Citi Field (at long last!), chatted a little about the Reds' tough start to the season, heaped praise on Drew Smith and Travis Jankowski, and examined why DFAing Robinson Cano was absolutely the right move.
Elizabeth and Jake are joined by Jake Brown to discuss the Mets' hot start to the season, as well as the great new food options at Citi Field and much more!
This week, Jake and Elizabeth touched on some "overreactions" from the first week of the regular season, including the offense's improved approach at the plate, the bullpen's shakiness, and the starters' brilliance. We dove into all the things we love about Starling Marte and Chris Bassitt, and also discussed what food we're most looking forward to eating at Citi Field this season. All that and more this week on Cohen's Corner!
This week, Elizabeth and Jake discuss the already immense impact Buck Showalter's had on the Mets so far. Also, how cool was it to see Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer pitch in the same game? All that and more in the latest episode of Cohen's Corner.
In our first episode recorded since the lockout ended, Jake and Elizabeth react to the Mets acquiring Chris Bassitt and evaluate which Mets players they do, and don't, want to reunite with in 2022. They also unpack some of the biggest blockbuster signings across the baseball world over the past week and discuss head-scratching decisions all over the league.
Elizabeth and Jake are joined by special guest Danielle Sepulveres to discuss the latest news surrounding the orange and blue, followed by a review of the ESPN documentary "Once Upon a Time in Queens" which tells the story of the 1986 Mets.
It's a Christmas miracle! The Mets hired the manager that Jake and Elizabeth have been talking about for over a year! This week, we express our excitement about Buck Showalter becoming the new Mets skipper, react to his introductory press conference, and try to dispel any worries that fans might have about his place in baseball today. We also remember some notable (and not-so-notable) Mets birthdays and transactions on Christmas through the years, and discuss our favorite utility infielders and "one-hit/catch wonders" for the Amazins. When was the last time you heard about Ruben Gotay, Cory Sullivan, and Damion Easley? It's all here!
The unthinkable has happened. Max Scherzer is the newest member of the New York Mets. Elizabeth and Jake try to wrap their heads around that while also discussing who the team might hire as their new manager.
This week, we chatted with Mike Janela, who is a gameday and digital host for the Mets! Mike shared how he got started in the sports industry, how he landed the gig with the Mets, and what some of his craziest days at Citi Field have been. We also dove into some of the other cool things he's done for work (like meeting Alex Trebek) and the time he won major money on a game show! Finally, we shared our collective thoughts on Noah Syndergaard signing with the Angels and how well (or poorly) we're handling it.
It pains us to say this but...Congratulations to the 2021 World Series Champions, the Atlanta Braves. This week Elizabeth and Jake are joined by Locked On Mets podcast host Ryan Finkelstein to recap the 2021 World Series and to preview what should be a very busy and critical offseason for the New York Mets.
