Lauren dives into the mystery and murder of Otzi the Iceman, a 5,300 year old mummy discovered in 1991 in Europe’s Ötztal Alps. Older than Stonehenge and even the Egypian Pyramids, Otzi’s remains and belongings were nearly perfectly preserved in ice, providing scientists and historians with a time capsule into a small chapter of mankind’s history.

Beginning around January 1900, a criminal gold mining ring took shape in the U.S. At its helm? Alexander McKenzie, a former Sheriff with powerful connections across the country. Through legal loopholes, favors, promises, and even bribes, McKenzie managed to take complete control of Cape Nome, Alaska during the 1900 gold mining season. However, after several weeks of unfair treatment, the miners in Nome decided to fight back.

In July of 1898, a literal goldmine was discovered along a tributary of the Snake River in remote Alaska. The news traveled quickly, bringing hundreds and then thousands of hopeful miners to the Alaskan wilderness. However, it soon became clear that there was not enough room for everyone. As American miners squared off with international travelers, a political powerhouse across the country began planning a widespread conspiracy to take complete control of the area.
