On this episode we are joined with Karlyn Labate (MHA, RT R), who is the Director for the radiology program at SUNY and the President elect for the New York State Society of Radiologic Sciences.  She spends time with hosts Maracelene Forbus (RT R, RPA) and Reece Burgoon (RT R, RRA) to share the importance of our impacts as working medical imaging professionals with students in radiology programs.  Her words are encouraging and you can tell she has a passion for educating and working in the field of radiology.

Taking the time to share with us how the changes in the profession have evolved and how students keep us up to date with the most current knowledge.  She explains how working together improves the profession for generations to come.  We spend our time talking about various programs and what to expect as a student, from being accepted to completing the program.

In the end Karlyn Labate explains how the RA has made an impact with her students and the importance of the profession.  Her explanation on how she would like to see our profession grow and gain traction was absolutely wonderful.  We were so thrilled to be sharing these conversations with her and we hope you enjoyed the discussions as well.

Radiation Therapist, Robin Mixon RT (R) (T), joins hosts Marcelene Forbus (Rt, RPA) and Reece Burgoon (RT, RRA) to share her experiences throughout her radiology career.  Mrs. Mixon shares about attending the RT program and how Radiation Therapy was always where she wanted to be.

Ms. Mixon shares about the two routes for attending Radiation Therapy programs and what the clinical aspect looked like for her.  She continues on to share what her role consists of and how working together as a team to achieve proper treatment for every single one of their patients.  Covid was something that everyone, and especially those of us in healthcare, were impacted by.  Mrs. Mixon explains how the pandemic looked and how they navigated through it all.

Toward the end of the conversations she takes the time to elaborates on how the RA role impacts patient care, the department, and the communities we serve.  She shares her thoughts on MARCA and the importance of pulling together to see it pass through legislation.

Mrs. Mixon, thank you for putting yourself out there and sharing so much of your story with us.  We loved learning about the roles of Radiation Therapist and how there are many faces in Radiation Therapy who are all involved in each patients treatment.  

Robert Mixon (RT, RPA, RRA) is our guest host featured on this episode of CollaborationRA where he talks about his experiences as an RT student and those who have mentored him throughout his career.  He shares how the RA education looked for him and what options were available to assist him while working and going to school full-time.

Mr. Mixon also shares his thoughts on MARCA (Medicare Access to Radiology Care Act) and how it impacts the RA's who are practicing.  In the end Mr. Mixon takes a moment to share his passion for taking pride in the profession and how important just listening to our elderly patient's can be for the care they are receiving.

This week Rick Matthews (BSRS, RPA, RT, RA), joins Marcelene Forbus (RT, RPA) and Reece Burgoon (RT, RRA) and shares with us how his passion for patient care, the love of family, and his experiences led to opening his company, Mobile Vascular Solutions.  Mr. Matthews takes the time to share with us why limb salvage is so important and how this company is working towards enhancing the lives of the patients they are serving.

Mr. Matthews explains the importance of the Radiologist Assistant role,  what MARCA looks like to him, and how radiology professionals in this capacity can better humanize the imaging that is done. All of this together leads to better diagnosis and treatment for our patients that we are all caring for together.  Later we get personal and each share those during our careers who have helped inspire us and lead us into our career paths today.

Mr. Matthews, thank you for sharing with us your upbringing, the start of your career, and the development of Mobile Vascular Solutions.  It was so amazing to get to sit with you and hear your story.  

Mr. Brandon Smith, M.B.A, M.S.R.S, RT (R) (VI), CIIP joins CollaborationRA to visit with host Marcelene Forbus, RT, RPA and host Reece Burgoon, RT, RRA as we navigate through the radiology profession.  Mr. Smith has went from volunteering for the ASRT, to serving the board, and is currently the President Elect for the ASRT.

Mr. Smith really takes the time to share his passion for promoting all radiology professionals in every modality. Sharing his thoughts on the importance of being proud of the modality you serve but also being purposeful in advocating for every modality.  Together we talk about future RT's and how we can better work towards opening discussions as our profession continues to grow. Demonstrating how we can all work towards strengthening our profession and making sure we let all professionals have a seat at the table.

Mr. Smith thank you so much for coming on, sharing your love for radiology, and explaining your perspective on how coming together is vital for the success of all radiology professionals.  We were very excited to have been able to sit and visit with you and even more excited to share your episode with our listeners!  Thank you for advocating and doing the work that you do!

In this episode Dr. A. MCCurry, Chief Resident, comes on with Sean Wiley (RRA) to walk us through what medical school looks like, matching and how the ESIR works for residents, fellows, and attendings. Dr. MCCurry and Sean elaborate on how they practice together and the value that the staff and physician extenders bring to the table. 

Together we all openly discuss some of the harder topics that surround the profession and why those concerns exist.

This is an extended episode where guest Jason Barrett (RA) joins in the discussion with CollaborationRA.  Some of you may know Jason as he has been on the forefront of the RT/RA profession when it comes to legislation on a state and national level.  He has dedicated approximately 15 years to the SRPE serving as President and now currently sits on the board.  Jason brings so much experience to the podcast in this episode as he walks us through our legislative history and continued efforts in maintaining radiation protect standards to the general public.

Jason does such a great job at smoothly carrying us through the history of MARCA, what MARCA serves to actually do, and how it can benefit those who utilize the RA profession in their practices.  Jason takes the time to fill us in on where legislation is now and how we can continue to push MARCA forward. If you have ever wanted to understand the radiology profession, what the RA role looks like, and why we are asking for help with our grassroots efforts; this is the episode to listen to!!!

Our featured guest, Jennifer Smith (RA) and Dr. Jerry Warren, sit down with CollaborationRA hosts Marcelene Forbus (RA) and Reece Burgoon (RA) to talk about the radiology profession.  Dr. Warren goes through how the Navy set him up for success and leading him into his career as a Board Certified Radiologist.

It was neat getting to sit and hear Dr. Warren talk about old school radiology methods and how it has changed over the years.  We loved hearing about how him and his group of radiologist were able to raise fund to start a radiation therapy institute and how it has continued to grow to better serve the communities cancer patient's.  

Dr. Warren thank you for coming on and sharing your experiences with Radiology Technologist and Radiologist Assistants and sharing the importance our professionals have in radiology. Your thoughts on MARCA and how the RA is to the radiology field were brief but important to share.  Your support and coming on to share with others is vital to the success of our profession and it was an honor to have you and Jenn with us.

Dr. Cephus Simmons Sr. sits down with us and shares how he started out his career, his role as an RA, and his inspiration for inventing his company Seal Cath.  It was really exciting to hear about how his RA profession led him into the development of his double balloon rectal catheter and discussing the clinical side of reducing intussusceptions.

Dr. Simmons also spends time sharing how vital the RA profession is to the radiology departments we serve and how the profession is meant to compliment the radiology departments, not take over them.  Hearing him speak on the collaborative efforts we all have in our departments made for a perfect close for this episode.

It was such a pleasure to have Dr. Simmons join us and share his perspective on the RA role and the benefits that his radiologist felt.  Dr. Simmons you are an inspiration and we are so happy we got to have these conversations with.

Derek Madeiros, RA, comes on to visit with CollaborationRA and explain how he decided that the RA profession was the right fit for him and what his career has looked like over time. He shares who inspired him to follow through with becoming an RA and how it would require building the profession. Throughout the podcast Derek really pays respect to those before him and recognizes a few of the many pioneers to the RA profession.

We spend some time and discuss what efficiency looks like and how our RT roles are incorporated into our work flow.  We both share our experiences with educating RT students and Derek shares how he sees teaching as an opportunity for growing our profession.

Listen in as we briefly talk about what starting the podcast has looked like, the job market, and how we are continuing to grow.  Sharing his thoughts how the RA was designed to help radiologist and was intended to be utilized in unison with our radiologist.  His passion for the RA career path and passage of MARCA are demonstrated throughout our conversations.
