On this week's episode, I speak with Edward Wyn Jones. Currently, Edward is the principal at EtonHouse Broadrick in Singapore. He and his family have been living there since January 2020. Previously, Edward was Head of Primary at Craighouse School in Chile for just over two years. Originally from Wales, Edward and his family returned to the UK briefly before settling in Singapore.
Edward mainly shares his experiences as Head of Primary in Craighouse School and his role as principal at EtonHouse. Edward says both have the "same difficulties, same frustrations but it's just got a different name and a different country." Fondly remembering Craighouse School, Edward felt that he and his staff "really gelled to a great team."
Edward discusses one of his proudest moments in education. The production of the Lion King at the school in Santiago showcased students talents in the performing and creative arts. He noticed, "[p]eople working together to make sure that every child had experiences that they will remember for the rest of their lives."
Edward recognized that people will have that 'feel factor' about a school 10 to 15 minutes after being there. He noticed EtonHouse had that "warm feeling, that friendly, community feeling." Edward felt the same way about the school in Wales (Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbran) where he was Headteacher for 13 years.
This conversation with Edward was a great opportunity to hear from a principal at a prestigious international school and learn more about his journey. It is evident that Edward is passionate about facilitating and supporting children to give them enriching learning experiences especially in the performing and creative arts.
