College Avenue Baptist Church - San Diego

Prayer can change the course of events.

The greatest tragedy in life is not unanswered prayer but unoffered prayer (F.B. Meyer).  Our church family is committed to expressing our absolute dependence on God through personal and corporate prayer.  So, how can we learn to pray?  One way is by rubbing shoulders with people in the Bible and savoring their prayers.

Confess and pray for the honor of God's name.

Live a faithful, God-centered life for the long haul.

Day after day.  Month after month.  Year after year.  Samuel lives a life of unrelenting faithfulness to God in a culture where the opposite is the norm.  Samuel is an example of what it looks like to keep your eye on the prize and finish well.  Samuel will whisper to us, “Don’t quit. Don’t give up. Don’t get lazy. Press on. Run to win the prize!”

God brings beautiful things out of desperate situations.

Who we are when no one is watching is more important that who we are in public.

God’s approval is all the approval that you will ever need.

Step into chaotic situations around you and guide people back to God.

God will honor those who honor Him.

Be someone who stands out, rather than someone who blends in with your corrupt environment.

Is What You Want Out of Your Reach?

The Samuel story begins with a woman (Hannah) who is intensely hurt and troubled due to the pain of infertility.  Hannah has an emotional meltdown at the tabernacle in Shiloh then God answers her prayer. Samuel’s birth is a turning point in Israel’s history. God makes something unspeakably good out of something unspeakably terrible.
