Whatever we can to resist the temptations of worldly glory, pleasures, and other material goods that can mislead us down the wrong path, let us also make the effort to resist those temptations, and distance ourselves from pride and ego, learning instead to be humble and to be willing to listen to the Lord. Let us all be open to welcome Him into our midst and do whatever we can to follow Him to the best of our abilities.

The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is about Jesus’ promise of eternal life to all who believe and put their trust in him. In Mary’s assumption, we stand on the promise that we can each make a difference in this world. The poor, the hungry, the lowly and those who sit on thrones will all have an opportunity to make this world a better place.

Homily for the Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Lord is calling all of us to be his advocates and to be His voice. We have to become courageous Christians and seek out those who are the flesh of Christ.

Inasmuch as the flesh of Christ includes every human being on the planet, this will require the resources of the Holy Spirit. So let us ask him to give us the grace to go out to the outskirts of life and evangelize and proclaim the Good News of the Lord.

As sons and daughters of our Lord, we are under His rule, and His rule is love. His love for us is not subject to how we feel about ourselves, no matter what we’ve done or how tempted we are to dwell on the past. Nothing can ever taint or alter His Love.

His love is selfless. He is love.

Homily for the Memorial of Saint Clare, Virgin

St. Clare devoted herself to God from an early age, dedicating herself to pious works and charitable actions from her youth. She was born from a rich and noble family, but she endeavored to leave everything behind to follow the Lord after encountering St. Francis of Assisi and listening to his sermons. 

Clare led her spiritual life by example by putting her understanding of God and scripture into action. She served others continuously. Her sisters testified after her death that whenever the sisters would spend the day begging or doing works of charity in the community when they came home, Clare would bend down and wash their feet. At night she would stroll the town and cover the homeless with blankets so they wouldn’t be too cold. Clare always provided for the poor and was attentive to their needs. She cared for the sick and, on occasion, would heal them.

The cross of Christ was not just an object of devotion but also a representation of how to mirror the life of Christ, marking its subjects on how to live. With no actual mirrors in her time, she spent hours contemplating the cross to reflect Christ in sacrificial love, servant leadership, and deep compassion for God’s creation.

Homily for the Feast of Saint Lawrence, Deacon and Martyr

St. Lawrence should inspire us all to do more for the sake of our fellow brothers and sisters, as how the saint and martyr chose to suffer and endure trials rather than betray the works and responsibilities entrusted to him. St. Lawrence showed us that as Christians, each and every one of us has the calling and the mission to reach out to our brethren and to the world, to stand up for our faith, and to be courageous in living our faith through our lives. Unless we do so, we cannot be truly considered Christians.

Children are a great gift to us. They have the ability to teach us throughout our lives. Most adults think that children should imitate them. Yet, Jesus completely reverses this thought. Adults should strive to have the innocence, joy, frankness, and unconditional love that children naturally embody. Ponder, how different would my life be if we truly would follow the example of children?

Homily for the Memorial of Saint Dominic, Priest

St. Dominic established the foundation of his new religious order, dedicating himself and all others to a new way of life, focusing on God and leading a more ascetic and holy way of living, distancing himself from worldly temptations and desires, and spending the time and effort to get ever closer to God. And through his extensive travels and missionary works, St. Dominic inspired many people to turn back towards the Lord in faith and many people were also inspired to join his religious order. He showed a great example of faith and became a great inspiration for many down the centuries, and his devotion to Our Lady, the Blessed Mother of God, and one of the earliest use of the rosary also brought many great graces to the Church and the people of God.
