Homily for the Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

In the midst of our persistent prayer we realize that what we ask for might seem best for us in the moment, but there may be a higher good that God desires to give us. This greater good is the gift of the Holy Spirit, who is given to us to dwell within us, to reveal the love of God to us, to lead us to the truth, to be our advocate, to sanctify us and to empower us as witnesses of Jesus Christ.

Jesus is telling us that by welcoming Him into our life and listening with understanding to His teachings, our life will be nourished and enriched by the truth and beauty of His message. Our interest in Him will increase and by constant listening to His words, more revelations are given to us. We then grow in wisdom and knowledge.

Our role is not to feel like we have to be the ones to produce the good fruit. We don't have to be the ones to produce and plant the seeds of faith and to give everything to everyone because you'll just become frustrated and aggravated. There's only one thing that's commanded of us... be the good soil, be good dirt.

Who do you love and cherish the most? God did not intend for us to be alone, but to be with others. He gives us many opportunities for developing relationships with family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers. That is why he created us – to be united with him and to share in his love.

Lots of people are looking for signs, signs that they need to trust in Jesus in the first place, and that they need to obey Jesus. Well, we’ve been given the only sign we should need Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. Are we holding out for more?

Homily for the Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (9pm)

Surrender your heartache and buried hurt to God. The posture of your heart says a lot about the way you feel about God. Your heart should be in a posture of complete surrender, humility, adoration, and faith. A surrendered and humble heart tells God that you are releasing control to Him. A heart of adoration acknowledges who God was, is, and will be. A faithful heart lets God know that you trust Him to keep you. When we are not functioning from a Godly heart posture, we are not functioning in direct alignment with God. Ask yourself, “are you out of alignment with God?”

Homily for the Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (10:30)

The posture of a disciple, the posture of Mary is always the primary position for every one of us as a Christian... to sit at the foot of the master and to reflect his love and his life out. 

Our life should revolve around doing what needs to be done at the moment, but also on spending time and focusing on the Lord and his teachings. For in the end what will be the most important aspect of heaven? Gazing on the face of God as well as enjoying the bliss of eternity.

Homily for the Memorial of Saint Bonaventure, Bishop and Doctor of the Church

Just as St. Bonaventure dedicated his life to God and His Church out of his love for Him, therefore all of us should also remember all the love and kindness that God has shown us, and do our very best to show that same love in our lives, in how we remain firmly faithful in God and in our exemplary living, and in loving one another, in the same way, that we love ourselves and God, and not to harden our hearts against Him as the Pharisees and others had done in the past.

Each of us has our own struggles and burdens in life, some greater than others. At times, we are overwhelmed by the heaviness of the weight upon us. Jesus knows the burdens of human life, for he was like us in all things but sin. He gives us a plan of action. First, come to him. Be in relationship with him. Seek him. Second, instead of carrying the load on our own, as we have been doing unsuccessfully, he invites us to share our burdens with him by yoking ourselves to him.

Homily for the Wednesday of the Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time

To have faith like a child is to blindly trust the goodness, care, leadership, and provision of a father. 

Being the child of God affords us the opportunity to live under his constant provision and leadership. As our good Father, he longs to provide for us a wonderfully abundant life full of joy, peace, purpose, laughter, friends, and unconditional love. But so often we go our own way and live our lives apart from all that’s available to us in God. Whether it be by a lack of revelation, impatience, fear, wrong teaching, or past experiences, we so often fail to have faith that God will shepherd us to his perfect plans.

God is calling you to a greater lifestyle of childlike faith. He is calling you to place your trust in him alone for your finances, relationships, future, past, and present.
