Homily for the Tuesday of the Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time

It is said that "familiarity breeds contempt," and sometimes in our daily walk with God, we take Him for granted and treat Him with contempt. When we question the integrity and ability of God, we treat Him with contempt. When we give less than our best to God, we treat Him with contempt. The spirit of familiarity exacts a heavy price and we must break from familiarity because it is the enemy of reverence. Today, may the Lord open our eyes to behold wondrous things in his law, day after day after day.

We are meant for the life to come. The world's values are not the things Jesus values. The world's pleasures are not the pleasures of an Ambassador of Christ, tempting as they may be, but rather the worship of God and living our lives as light in the dark. We are called to be in the world and not of the world. 

Homily for the Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (10:30)

Why is it hard to love people well? Just as in our love for those who hate us, we cannot properly love those with whom we disagree if we are not already loving God rightly.

Homily for the Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (7PM)

“You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”  Luke 10:27

The story of the Good Samaritan is one that should wake us up to some not-so-pleasant truths about love of neighbor, or the lack thereof. The conclusion shows us that we should be like the Good Samaritan who showed mercy to the man in need. On an intellectual level, it is easy to conclude this fact. However, in practice, it is not always the case.

As we sometimes take other people for granted and fail to be fully aware of them, we can also oftentimes take God for granted, and fail to be fully aware of him. The great thing about God is though, that he continues to invite us back to him.

Sometimes you may wonder, why did God use those 12 vessels of clay... those 12 disciples. But then you begin to realize it was all in His plan. He wants to show a fallen, lost, and sinful humanity that anybody can be used for the glory of God. Don't ever use your weakness and inadequacy as an excuse for not being a more useful Christian. If you surrender who and what you are to Him, He can do wonders through you just as He did through the 12. Jesus chose the 12, not for what they were, but for what they could become. It was their potential that made them His choice.

The Church is calling on each and every one of us to reclaim the mission of evanglization. That doesnt necessarily mean you have to quit your job to become a full time missionary, though some are called to do that. But it means that wherever you go in life, you take your friend Jesus with you and introduce Him to others.

God wants to fellowship with His people. He wants to woo you into a covenantal relationship. If you will follow Him and obey Him, you can be part of His treasured people out of all nations.
