Homily for the Thursday of the Tenth Week in Ordinary Time

Lean into the sacramentals... those graces where our Lord and our Blessed Mother and Holy Mother Church want to arm you with. So, when the battles of daily life come, you are not out there without your sword of the rosary or the breastplate of the scapula. Continue to keep your mind on the Lord so you can receive those graces that you need to get through your daily battles.

Homily for the Wednesday of the Tenth Week in Ordinary Time

The Lord allows us to choose whether we will follow Him or the false gods and unrighteous ways of the world. While you are free to choose your course of action, you are not free to choose the consequences. Whether for good or bad, consequences follow as a natural result of the choices you make. Some sinful behavior may bring temporary, worldly pleasure, but such choices delay your progress and lead to heartache and misery. Righteous choices lead to lasting happiness and eternal life.

By the end of his earthly ministry, Christ had made it clear that the gospel was to have a universal application. He commanded his followers to go and teach all nations, to baptize them, and teach them everything he had taught. As Christians we should spread the gospel of Christ to everyone. We are to do as much good in the name of Christ as we can, and we are to share the light of the gospel with as many as we can.

Homily for the Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church

Mary was at the foot of the cross when Jesus handed over his Spirit to the Father and Jesus' side was pierced from which blood and water flowed. Mary was with the Apostles and the hundred and twenty in the Upper Room on Pentecost when she received a fresh outpouring of the Spirit, now as the Mother of the Church. Her role was to walk with the early Church, sharing with them her memories of Jesus' early life. She acts as a witness of what it means to be filled with the Holy Spirit as an icon of holiness and a witness to the Risen Lord. As our Mother, she leads us to a deeper relationship with Jesus in the Spirit to the Father.

At times we may not understand what Jesus is saying to us. However, no matter who we are or what positions we hold, we still are not in charge of our life. Nor can we control what our future will be. However, there is one area of control: we can make the decision to walk with Jesus daily and to trust Him with all our hearts.

Homily for the Thursday of the Seventh Week of Easter

Our love for God, neighbor, self, and enemy reveals our oneness, and the measure of our oneness, our God-likeness, is love. In love, there may be differences but there is no division. As the Father and Jesus love each other, so does Jesus love his disciples, and so must his disciples love each other. Only if the disciples, and all of us, remain in God's love, will we be able to see Jesus' glory, the glory that he has with the Father.

Homily for the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Feast of the Visitation recalls Mary’s visit to her aging cousin Elizabeth. Both had recently and unexpectedly been told that they would bear children who were central to God’s plans for Israel. Mary took the demanding journey to the hill country of Judaea to share the good news with her cousin. It was always going to be a joyful meeting, one marked by the courtesy of both women.

Homily for the Monday of the Seventh Week of Easter

While we cannot avoid all pain and suffering in this life, Jesus, nonetheless assures us that he will guide us safely through any difficulty or trial we may have to undergo for his sake. Jesus calls each of us to take courage because he has overcome the world. The Holy Spirit gives us a living hope in the power of the resurrection and confident trust in God‘s abiding presence. Nothing can overcome this faith and hope in Christ's victory -- no trial, suffering, temptation, or testing. The Holy Spirit gives us the strength and courage we need to overcome adversity and persevere in faith.
