Erin will explain the Guidelines that she uses in the Color Decoded episodes that feature specific art works to describe the works for an audience of listeners. The Guidelines advocate touching artworks and art analogs to learn about them and Erin suggests some places you might be able to find 3D models of art.

The art inspiration for this episode is Heron Drinking at Sunset by Herm Card. This photo-graphic features the silhouette of a heron against a fiery sky reflected on the water. Erin took inspiration from the work to talk about the physics of how they sky gets its colors.  After the break, Erin discusses a Cool Color Tool, the Palette Cam app that can be used to get the codes for colors in pictures which she uses in her digital art projects. This abstract acrylic work features red, white, and blue hues which led to a discussion of dyes used in early American Flags and then a discussion of the chemistry of fireworks after the break.  These colors don't run, but they sure make a big bang.
