Theme: Jesus is still on the offense responding to the prior challenges/attacks by the religious leaders against Him. In this passage He exposes their hypocrisy and exalts humility.

Theme: The religious leaders are finished confronting Jesus, now He goes on the offense and begins challenging them:

Of course He drives immediately to the matter central in His thinking

What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is He?

You can bet there is some squirming and uneasiness on the part of the religious leaders...(grin)

It’s been three weeks, but Jesus is still sparring with the Jewish religious leaders...this is the third attack they've mounted against Jesus...in one day!!!

The Question - which is the greatest commandment

The Answer - Love the Lord your God with all your heart...

We will explain why that's the  greatest commandment, make some other related comments and close with an application

Theme: Like the Pharisees and Herodians from last week, the Sadducees follow up with there own attack on Jesus. Last week the stated issues were tithes and taxes (though not really), this week the stated issue is marriage, resurrection and afterlife, but the real issues is just another attempt by the Jewish religious leaders of the day to discredit Jesus as Lord/Messiah.

Theme: Jesus tells another parable in response to the Jewish religious leaders challenging His authority. The parable of the great feast.

 

The main point of the parable addresses two issues:

Those who outright reject God's invitation to into the Kingdom/Feast

Those who try to enter another way than Gods prescribed way

Application: Let every person examine themselves to see if we are truly in the faith/kingdom, will be at the feast
