This Sunday, Pastor will be preaching vv 10 & 11 of John 1. Here John shows how many people respond to Jesus Christ when he came into the world. The world did not know him. The Jews did not receive him. John points at the nature of who was entering the world, showing that any failure to receive the light is tragic.

The sermon this Sunday is again from the great Prologue that begins the first chapter of the Gospel of John. This time, we consider the truth that Christ is the True Light. How will we respond to the Light who has come into the world? We will receive him or turn to the darkness? This question is of paramount importance.

This Sunday, Pastor preached on vv 6–8 of John 1. John’s focus in these verses shifts to the Baptist, the forerunner to the Christ and his ministry on the stage of world history. John was surely a significant figure, but he still is vastly inferior to the Light, our Lord Jesus Christ. His purpose, like ours, is to make the Light known so that all may believe in him.

Pastor Martin continues his series through 1 Corinthians 10

This Sunday, Pastor Martin continues to look at the prologue to the Gospel of John. The focus this week is on verses 4 & 5, where we learn that Jesus is the Life and Light. These ideas seem to flow out of the truth in verse 3 that the Word created all things, and yet they anticipate the themes that will come up again later in John's Gospel. In a world of death and darkness, the light of God has come, revealed exclusively in Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

In the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is our own resurrection and the consummation of all God’s plans for this sin-wrecked globe. The promise of a glorious coming kingdom and the exaltation of God over all things is rooted in a historical fact, the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth from the dead.
