The Day of Atonement is one of the most important festivals to the ancient Israelites. Everything is detailed and symbolic. Everything is meant to point to Christ. There are two goats as part of the ritual, one goat is sacrificed to pay for the sins of the people and the second goat has the sins of Israel placed upon it before it is released into the wilderness to take away the sins of the people. Why are there two goats? And what does the combination of these two goats teach us about the atonement?
