What was the great trial spoken of here? It was the trial of persecution of the church and with that persecution “the hearts of many were hardened, and their names were blotted out, that they were remembered no more among the people of God. And also many withdrew themselves from among them. (Alma 1:24)”

How quickly did many forget the goodness and mercy of God. Nevertheless—whosoever putteth his trust in him the same shall be lifted up at the last day. Yea, and thus it was with this people.

If someone wants to be lifted up at the last day, or in other words, brought back into the presence of the Father, one must put his or her trust in God. This really got me thinking about the word trust...

What a powerful scripture and one we should all memorize. It is impossible to cover all aspects of this scripture in this short commentary, but as I thought about this scripture, I kept thinking, what does this mean to each of us individually? The sun could be warm, bright, and illuminating but only to those willing to open the door and step outside. Likewise, one could hold in their hands the most powerful flashlight on Earth, and only if and when they willingly flip on the switch will they benefit from its light. The power of light for an individual, is how they use it.

I am so excited about what we learn from these chapters! This week in our video and podcast we are going to talk about two groups of people and how they handle their trials. One group turns immediately to the Lord and the other group tries to fight their own battles until they were almost destroyed and then turns to the Lord. We also talk about finding our own sacred places and how we heal and prosper “by degrees”.

I love this verse because it's message is just so clear and straight forward. The three different situations mentioned here are different and yet they also feed into each other. Neal A. Maxwell said, "Failure to serve the Master in small ways estranges us from Him." In another talk he expressed it this way...

This week in our video and podcast we did things a bit different. With all of us being quarantined I had the wonderful opportunity to sit on the floor and film with my children all around. What a joy children are:)

This week we talk about Ammon’s journey to find the people that had left the land of Zarahemla some 80 years earlier. He finds them and receives a record that tells their story since they left. We begin to read that story in chapter 9 and 10 and will continue it next week.
