Matt Keenan initially came to Vietnam from New York over 50 years ago, having being drafted for the war, before returning home and adapting to civilian life. He discovered many years later that he had cancer, primarily caused by exposure to the infamous 'Agent Orange' chemical in the Vietnam War. In 2015, he returned to Da Nang, Vietnam to become immersed in the culture, meet the people, and discover the real Vietnam. He currently participates regularly at the 'Da Nang Agent Orange's Victim's Association', helping children currently still affected by Agent Orange. We discuss his war time and civilian experiences, dissect his return to Vietnam, explore how the effects of the war and Agent Orange are still prominent today, and discuss the work he does at the association, and why Vietnam as a whole is such a special country.
