It's the first Comic Book Bears Podcast audio episode of 2021. Recorded on 1/7/2021- just one day after the failed Trump Insurrection (which we definitely talk about some) - the CBBoys reconvene to chat about many things! Hit play or download to join Bill, Bryan, Steve and Caleb as they offer up their opinions about Wonder Woman 1984, the latest DC Extended Universe film entry directed by Patty Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig and Pedro Pascal! Then it is time to hit the spinner rack with the fellas talking about Glitter Vipers, Insider Art, The Arrival, Death Metal and Dark Knights: Death Metal - The Secret Origin, Neil Gaiman's Norse Mythology, Cease and Desist: Inspired by the Music of They Might Be Giants, Six Days: The Incredible Story of D-Day's Lost Chapter and the final Bendis-written Superman issues among many others!
Join us for the final Comic Book Bears Podcast audio episode of 2020! Bryan, Bill and Steve are back in the bear cave to discuss recent news, talk about their favorite books of 2020 and amazingly each pick a DC book (Dark Nights: Death Metal - The Last Stories of the DC Universe. The Green Lantern: Season Two, Hawkman) in spotlighting a recent fave read.
Hoping that you all had a very happy holiday season and wishing you all a MUCH BETTER year in 2021!
Steve, Bryan and Bill are thrilled to welcome Caleb back to the show following his finishing up his law school finals! First up, the CBB boys talk about the Marvel announcements that were made at the annual Walt Disney Company's 2020 Investor Day Presentation (with a smattering of Star Wars and Lucasfilm talk thrown in.) Then it is back to the spinner rack for a very healthy dose of comic book talk! Listen in as these hairy heavy homos weigh in on The Other History of the DC Universe, King in Black, Commanders in Crisis, Batman/Catwoman, Atlantis Wasn't Built for Tourists, Sword, Kill a Man, Barbalien: Red Planet and much more!
On a week where none of us really had time to read comics, Bill, Bryan and Steve instead take you through some of their favorite animated series based on comic book properties! After an HBOMax/Scientology/pandemic tangent filled intro (hey, it happens) the animated talk starts! Listen in to hear what the CBB boys think about Sailor Moon, X-Men, Super Friends/Super Powers, Batman: The Killing Joke, Justice League: The New Frontier, Superman/Batman: Apocalypse, The Tick, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Teen Titans GO! and much, much more!
The Comic Book Bears are back with their first post-election episode (recorded 11/12/2020.) This one is admittedly a bit of a hodgepodge. Bryan, Steve and Bill talk about their post-election experiences out of the gate. And the comic book talk is fairly varied. Steve discusses Maids, an new original graphic novel from Fantagraphics by Katie Skelly about the real life Papin Sisters murders. Bryan gives us an X of Swords update. Bill fills us in on Laurel and Hardy Meet The Three Stooges #1 published by American Mythology. Also - though it might be a bit more effective on video - Bill and Steve unbox their most recent DCBS boxes and talk about their newly received comics. Throughout the rest of the episode you will also hear about the promotion of Marie Javins to Editor in Chief at DC Comics, Cross Over #1 (Image), Origins #1 (Boom!), tv series on NXIVM and Scientology, the awfulness of corporate speak, Bill watching things off of Steve's Plex server, the Woofs of the Week and much more!
It's the time of the year that ghosts and ghouls and goblins roam free as the Comic Book Bears salute Halloween during this horrifying year! Listen in as Bill, Steve and Bryan discuss new books they are enjoying (The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys: National Anthem, Rorschach, Skulldigger and Skeleton Boy) as well as books they recommend for your Halloween reading (Cryozone, Swamp Thing Halloween Spectacular, Showcase Presents House of Mystery) and much, much more!
The Comic Book Bears Podcast returns with another episode breaking down what is happening over in Marvel's X of Swords crossover - specifically Wolverine #6, X-Force #13, Maurauders #13 and Hellions #5. Between Storm being a total badass in Wakanda and the introduction of a new, formidable adversary for Logan in the new character Solem there is a lot to chat about. Steve, Bill and Bryan get in some more comic talk spotlighting Penultimateman, Be Gay Make Comics and Hawkman. And framing the comic talk are topics and tangents galore including politics, QAnon, what Bill's dad did in the 70's, HBO's The Vow and much, much more.
(Please also note that on this episode, Bryan is very, very low in the mix. We tried to fix it in the edit but it may require turning the volume up and down a few times. Sorry folks.)
This time around CBB boys Steve and Bill are thrilled to welcome to the show writer Stonie Williams! Stonie's new book, Villainous, is published Mad Cave Studios and tells the story of Matilda "Rep-Tilly" Anderson, an intern for the Heroes of the Coalition team of super-heroes. Rep-Tilly, like the rest of her fellow intern class, is paired with a more experienced superhero to hone her crime fighting skills. But the hero she is being mentored by, the strongman Showdown, and the Coalition itself are not exactly what they appear to be to the outside world. We talk to Stonie about his own history with comics, his influences, his epic beard (!) and much more! Following that Stonie joins Bill and Steve for some current comic talk with The Resistance, Hedra, Killadelphia, Thor, Spy Island and more on the spinner rack!
Once again we are playing catch up with audio episodes from our livestreams. Recorded on 10/1/2020, listen in as Bill, Bryan and Steve discuss the graphic novel adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five by Ryan North and Albert Monteys (Boom! Studios), the first few issues of the X of Swords crossover (Marvel) and the beginning of The Dreaming: Waking Hours (DC Black Label) and a whole lot more!
